Powell Sonare PS 101 CEF Flute
Transverse Flute

Interesting new student flute
I was attracted to this new entry level flute from the well known north american brand Powell.
Assembled it looks quite professional; the engraving on the barrel is appealing and nice to have. Tuning is accurate. The key mechanism is smooth with a medium spring. The sound I get from the low and middle notes is full and open. However as I approach the third high register it becomes shrill and sometimes harsh.
I would regard this as a flute for beginners - you would need to upgrade to progress further. There are also several alternative student instruments just slightly above this price level to strongly consider. I am pleased to own it as a second or backup instrument to use occasionally.
