Solid VFM little monitors
After almost 20 years of use, one of my old Tascam VL-A5 monitors started cutting in and out and at this point any repair would probably cost too much considering their age, so I went for a replacement. I am working mostly with live sound and these are used on my PC on a home studio setup in a moderately treated room. They are a bit bass heavy in general, but it is quite manageable with the switch in the back (0, -2, -4 dB on the low end). If that's not enough, then you probably need to treat your room at least a bit, because even the best speaker will not make up for bad acoustics. Compared to the sound I got used to over the years from my Tascams (who had essentially a low cut around 80Hz, very light on the bass and I always had to check mixes on other speakers) there's a ton more bass which is kind of impressive for such a small speaker and allows me to get a much better picture of the low end. They lose a hint of clarity in the mids (I'd say around the 1-2kHz area), but again, the knob in the back compensated for that with a small boost. I would prefer it if the knob had notches so I could be precise about the adjustment on both speakers, but it's not the end of the world... So feature-wise, they give you many options, which is great at this price range since they are very budget friendly and are probably going to be used in spaces that aren't ideal. I've only had them for about a month so I can't talk about reliability, but they look solid as quality goes. All in all, at the 222 euros I got them I would say they are great VFM little monitors and unless you are mixing VERY bass heavy stuff they give you enough info on the lows to make decisions upon in my opinion, without needing a sub.
Outstanding sound quality.
When I use these monitor speakers the sounds are very clear and well defined. Sounds good at both low and high gain (context - in a small or medium sized room). Works with all genres of music. They seem perfect to me.
Great spaekers at a reasonable price
I love these speakers. Fantastic especially when you consider the price.
Home studio
Use for recording in my home studio. Great for mixing tracks with plenty of volume
Nice studio monitors
Very good for the price. These monitors are good for a small space. Very detailed sound. For me it was an improvement.
Does its job
Solid build quality, pretty good sound in my opinion.
sounds great but faint hiss
sounds great, decent amount of parameters to make it works in your space.
My only gripes would be the hiss that can be heard event with the gain at zero
A great set of studio monitors
A fantastic set of monitors with crisp clear sound and are adjustable to room acoustics. I'm looking forward to producing music using them.
3-Year Long Term review - still amazing!!1
I have had these since early 2020 and have never had a single problem with them.
They sound just as crisp and clean as the very first time I listened to them. They offer a very flat but accurate sound and have minimal hiss when not playing anything through them.
The lower frequencies were not enough for my desire so I paired them with a PreSonus Temblor T8 subwoofer (now discontinued) and have created the perfect balance for my intended use (dance music production and everyday casual use). The lower frequency response on the Eris E5's without a subwoofer is decent, but as someone who enjoys a bit more punch in the low end, a sub was necessary (Although I only have the sub on about 5% power as it is a monster! Just a little power from it fits nicely along the E5's sound output and doesn't drown out the other frequencies)
They do not have a standby mode so I keep them plugged into the power source but turn them off from the back of the speaker every night and have had no problems technically with either monitor.
Overall they are stellar monitors and I definitely recommend even for just casual listening to music - you will not be disappointed!
No.1
For this price are the best monitors in the world. I've had M audio and Yamaha HS5 before them and I can say that Presonus definitely did a very good job. The fact that the air duct is in the front is an advantage when you use a small room and position them close to the wall. Great overall quality and surprisingly good bass for a 5'' speakers.
