Evans 08" TT08G2 Clear Head

For an 8" tom, I don't think I'd go with a more muffled head than this, as the sustain and tone with a smaller tom is already fairly limited. I find that the 8" tom is the first to start suffering from dead sounds when a more muffled head begins to lose its tone. A basic clear two-ply head is a great choice and will give you good results for a punchy sound. Every Evans head I've ever owned have had good quality, sound, and durability, and the G2s are my go-to drum heads for heavier music. Clear G2s give more attack and clarity than their coated counterparts. Easy to tune, good tuning range, durable, and great tone, what more can you ask for.

Remo 08" Ambassador clear

Not much to say about Remo. They have been producing quality drum heads for decades. The medium-thick Ambassador series is widely-used and is full of tone due to its' single ply and is quite durable. I bought this 8" head for my 8" tom, of course. There may not be much resonance produced but that is due to the size of the drum more than the head itself. Perhaps, a thinner Diplomat head would be more suitable. It depends how it would sound with the rest of the kit. I think that if tuned well and both top and bottom heads are tuned to the same pitch, there should be enough resonance. I don't intend to use any moongel or other muffling on this head. But that's just my personal taste. I've always been using Remo heads for my drums and don't see why I should change. Recommended!

Evans 08" EC2S / SST Frosted Control

Bought these for my entire kit which is 8" 10" 14" 16" Looks amazing sounds incredible i love the frosted feel and look These products met every expectation I had for them. As drummers we all search for heads that gives us the tone we want, look cool!! and tunes easily, these are my fave heads for toms for sure!!. They sound great on stage and on recordings The tone is amazing right from the lowest tuning the the highest so they are very versatile. I use really low tuning on floor toms and quite high on rack toms, and for both they work amazing. I don't use moon gel or a dampener as the heads them self's just tune up perfectly for me and iv used them for many years now the tone is very pleasing to me and my fellow drummer friends and others when they use my kit would...

Remo 8" Vintage Emperor Coated

I find the Remo Vintage Emperor coated range of heads to work perfectly for my requirements. Whether it's for a jazzy tone or a rocky tone you are looking for they are easily accomplished with these heads.I have found in the past that eight inch heads lose their coating and sound quality very quickly! The Remo Vintage Emperor Coated has no such problem. They are the most long lasting heads I have ever used in my more than 30 years of professional drumming. With very little messing; tweaking etc. you can get your required tone with these heads. I feel I will use these heads in the future and highly recommend them to any drummer. They are just lovely to play.

Remo 08" Fiberskyn 3 Thin (FD)

I use that skin on a PDP Maple custom, limited edition. Before that , i had the original PDP skin fitted on it. I play a lot of Jazzy stuff, and my set is as follows, 16" bass drum, 14" snare, 13" tom, 14" floor tom. That skin provide warm and clear overtone. Once i was able to adjust the harmonic perfectly, it gained in intensity and sound projection. I usually tune my 8" tom at a high pitch because the former skin did not render a good sound at low pitch. But with that skin, whatever tuning you would prefer it will always sound good, while delivering that warmness and great tone. I feel that this skin is quite versatile, i feel i can use it for different styles either than jazz, there's a lot to dig in. If you love to hear your tom breath with all the warmness...
