Evans EC2S / SST Clear Control 18"

I have always been a fan of oil filled heads for my particular style of playing I like a deep tight response with not over the top resonance, all my toms are on rims systems and inherently I feel they resonate too much. These skins really help to tighten the sound especially good when using microphones. I use the evens Ec2 on all my toms. Remo batters for snare and Aquarians super kick for bass. A great combination and just what I was looking for. I have always been a fan of Evans on the toms. Now I have 10.12.14.16.&18 all with ec2's and I am very happy with the results.
Aquarian 18" Classic Clear

I bought the Aquarian 18" Classic Clear head 'cause I was positevely surprised with this company after switching my snare and bass drum heads from Remo to Aquarian. I use this head as resonant on my 18'' floor tom. The characteristics are the same with the other two big companies' similar heads (Evans G1 and Remo's Ambassador), single ply-clear, but the quality of construction is way better. Tuning was never easier. Without having to stretch the head on the drum, the bearing edges of the drum ''read'' the drum heads tension immediately! Highly recommended.
Aquarian 18" Reflector

Aquarian Heads are not a well known make but they are ebery bot as good as Remo/Evans. For me they are better; better made, longer lasting and the sound is outstanding. I'm a professional of over 40 years and only discovered Aquarian by chance! Having done so, within a couple of months most of my snares and all of my two big kits (each with 7 drums) are 100% Aquarian and recording and sounding better than ever. My personal choice are the relatively new Refector Ice White heads. I got this 18" for one of my 18" floor toms to compare the standard black Reflector head with the Ice White. The black Reflector sounded great; big, deep and dark but by a small margin I prefered the Ice White. The other Aquarian heads I love are the Deep Vintage 2 heads; close enough to real calf heads...
Evans 18" Onyx Black TomTom

I put this on my Ludwig Epig 16x18 floor tom to try and get rid of some of the "flaappyness" that my previous drum head had, and found that very quickly I could tune it to my preferred tension and get playing. In fact, you could tune it to any tension and get a good sound out of it, the range is so vast you could use it for jazz-highs or punk lows. It needs no dampening at all at any tuning, or at least to my ear, and it's a very good weapon in your studio arsenal for any tom that's either difficult to tune, or hard to EQ, and I've found that it's a lot of fun to work with.
