Evans 24" EMAD2 Clear Bass Drum
Based on 3 reviews
I use the EMAD2 mainly for recording the bass drum in my studio but occasionally also for live shows and the results are fantastic - the sound is powerful and punchy with lots of meaty low end and great attack. I have used it on different genres - rock, punk rock, folk, hip-hop - having tried many bass drum heads before, the Evans EMAD2 has become my go-to product. The included muffling rings provide great versatility for shaping the tone. The head has proven to be very durable and retains its tone for a long time. I highly recommend this bass drum head, great value for money. It has not let me down once - just recently ordered two more to add to the studio drum head shelf.
Remo 24" Powerstroke 3 Coated Dot
Based on 1 reviews
Having used EMADs for years, I decided I was after a change. As I was going for Controlled Sounds on my toms and have used Coated CS Dots on my snares for as long as I can remember, I decided to plump for the relatively new Powerstroke 3 with Dot. This is a great head for those looking for the feel of a single-ply kick head, but with a bit more control than a run of the mill coated Ambassador or equivalent. The dot and powerstroke strip around the edge of the head act as dampers so you can get a lovely controlled tone whilst still appearing 'open'. I pair this with a felt strip across the resonant head for that extra bit of 'thump'. As with all coated heads, the coating adds some warmth to the tone and takes away some beater attack- so if you're after a more in-your-face, modern...
Remo 24" Ambassador White Smooth
Based on 1 reviews
After accidentally ordering this smooth finish head instead of the desired white coated head, i was pleasantly surprised to fine that it sounded equally as good! All remo ambassdor heads are my go to for big-kick sound. tighten the batter with towel for dampening, and keep this resonant head at a low-med tuning for some big, bonham style kick sounds that give you the full tonality of the shells you're using whilst still satisfying a lot of the spectrum. Punch and attack for days, whilst not being too resonant and 'ringy'. Love this head!
Evans 24" E-Mad Reso Bass Drum BK
Based on 3 reviews
I have changed all of my kick drums over to this resonant head from Evans. I am predominantly a Remo user, but I have to say I would recommend the Evans emad to any professional drummer. I don't think there is a better kick resonant/front head available by any of the other manufacturers. The tonal clarity and response is excellent, and the head itself is robust and tough enough to withstand life on the road. I particularly like the protective/reinforcement ring around the microphone sound hole. There's no rattle or buzz, just a pure response. I use it with a Remo coated powerstoke 4 on the batter side and it makes a seriously effective partnership! Great drum head!
Remo 24" Emperor Coated Drum Head
Based on 2 reviews
I used it on my Mapex Mars Big Rock In EVERY youtube video that I had heard the bass drum sound was flat and tight ( with remo standard heads on ) When I put this head on my bass drum , I was amazed by the sound it produced . A big warm open sound with a strong punch . Exactly what a 24 bass drum deserves . BEWARE . This drum head is quite hard and if you are not familiar with big bass drums you will need some time to get used to it ( some extra bounces will occure , but eventually they will go away ) So in a few words Great open big warm sound , with some overtones ( not as many as an ambassador ) . Buy it to get a really special awesome sound . And if you want it little bit more focused buy the Non Coated one . Stiv Black
Remo 24" Starfire Bass Drum Chrome
Based on 2 reviews
Having a chrome drum kit, it only made sense to go for the flashiest, chromiest head on the market! Having had problems with Remo products arriving warped in the past, I was really pleased to see this turning up with no such issues. The chrome finish is flawless and super reflective, which looks great under stage lights. Being single ply means a full, resonant sound- I have mine ported, with a felt strip underneath to help control it slightly and add a bit more attack. There are undoubtedly better sounding resonant heads on the market- I would probably recommend changing out for a studio session- but for a gigging kit these do the job, and make a great visual impact.
