Sennheiser MD46 Microphone

This is a solid dynamic reporter microphone, great for capturing dialogue in a relatively noisy environment. BUILD QUALITY Build quality is solid, all metal, and reassuring. It's not too heavy either. The XLR connector is good quality and solid too. The handle of the microphone is smooth and long enough to slot a 'microphone flag' onto the handle, leaving enough room to hold the handle. IN THE FIELD I've been testing this in some challenging situations, like a coffee shop, with lots of background noise, clattering, talking, etc. For these situations its cardiod dynamic response is a great choice. This allows you to capture dialogue clearly, by placing the microphone quite close to the person speaking. The cardiod response will still pick up background noise, but to a lesser extent...

First of all the handle of the microphone is very convinient. Easy to hold and change the position based on the who is talking. Just fit into a normal palm. Weight is absolutely at the middle. It is not seems cheap and easy chineese one, but not that heavy your hand come off. The frequency response is shout to normal human speetch but if there is an interviewee who has a pretty low voice it can describe that very well, too. Main strengh of this mic is the upper frequency region around 2 kHz, of course and it make to the mic a crystal clear intelligibility. We're using it in a local net radio for making general interview in different circuimstances but it's worked everywhere. We are very satisfied with it. But we took a long to find out what the hell is that plate on the top of that for....

This is my go-to interview microphone. It uses phantom power or an AA battery, I always use an AA as it saves my recorder's battery life. I have predominately used on location (indoors) in people's houses, living rooms and in some work environments (public buildings) Here are the best points about this item 1. Small and light, easy to hand-hold without undue handling noise. 2. Very sturdy and well-made 3. Sensitive, with little hiss 4. Dual power options I find I turn to it whenever I have a fairly quiet interview space. One minor work of warning, without the low-cut filter (on the handle) engaged it is very sensitive to handling and extraneous sounds. The first time I used it like that there were people milling around upstairs and they recorded like a herd of elephants. Switch on the...
