I'm not a percussionist and I didn't know I'd ever need claves. I also didn't know that I'd worry about their sound, cause, c'mon - they're just sticks. But I actually heard some claves in a local store and the sound was muffled and, surprisingly, I didn't like them at all. So, apparently, there are good and bad sticks... I'm glad I got these Studio 49's. The sound is clear and clicky, just as I imagined the sound of claves would be. I banged them for some time, but the wood is so hard that there are almost no visible marks of using them after a couple of months of occasional playing. Anyhow, I'd highly recommend them.

These little guys featured heavily on a world/latin music EP i finished during the year. They have such a nice woody tone. They aren't too "clicky" and sound gorgeous with a little reverb and chorus. A surprising palette of tones is available from using different points along the claves to strike and hit. They feel great in the hand too. Smoother than a baby's bottom finish and light as a feather to boot. Price is obviously amazing, if you have a few extra bones lying around you need to have these! They haven't picked up many scuff marks or dings either from repeated beating so they are obviously a good wood with a good surface treatment. Buy them!

It's hard to get enthusiastic about a couple of sticks, but I'm going to try! I was after a rich sound with good resonance, but how the heck do you find that over the internet? I listened to all the samples & plumped for these. As good as any, I thought. Actually, I'm really pleased with them! They're a neat little pair, easy to put in your pocket &, for their size, the sound is good. Maybe not as deep as I would have liked, but plenty of resonance & good enough. I'm very happy with them for the money.

A few months back I bought these to add to my growing collection of percussion items mainly for recording purposes. Although I had never bought a product made by Meinl before I felt assured from the reviews of their products and their website that they make good quality products. I therefore decided to spend a bit more and get these branded Claves rather then the own brand kind. When I received this item I was not disappointed, the wood looked and felt of a good quality and nicely finished. The sound that is product is sharp and crisp just light Claves should be! I also find that I use these instruments a lot more than I originally thought as I find they are great to keep people in time when multitrack recording as the sound is really easy to distinguish in most mixes. Overall I would...
