I feared it would be too muffled as I watched you tube. But this muffin sounds the shape of my snare drastically as I hoped and at the same time keeps it clear enough and delivers enough rebound. Wow ! It is a lot better then my towels (very muffled and not much rebound). I haven't tested it in a band or recordings yet. I wished I ordered the whole set in once. I would play more on my real drum then on my e drum when I have this. It takes away these enervating overtones in my cellar practice space and the drum sounds like an electric drum, vintage path, but better.

First, DO NOT use it in the sun or in a hot enviroment! Heat makes this a nightmare. Becomes sticky and gelatin-like, so watch out! Otherwise, using them is easy, basically idiot-proof. The different sizes make the altering of sound a breeze. Use on the 8"-12" toms the smallest one, 13"-15" the medium one and the big one from there. This way you still have some sustained boom, but it will be controlled. In other words, you retain the full bodied boom sound, but in a controlled amount. I use them sometimes on the inside part of the batter head, so heat and dirt can't interfere with them, and it stays there even after considerable time of playing. If I use them on the top of the heads, I tend to leave the plastic separator "coins" on them, so not many dirt...

Bought this to install a built in bass drum mic ! This will remove any unwanted bass drum overtones and also hold the bass drum mic in place ! The crossed shape cuts in the rubber top part enable you to move the microphone on both the x an y axis in order to pick up the beater area as much as you would wish ! This pillow sticks to the inside of the bass drum using velcro so you can remove it easily if need be ! This is ideal for inbuilt microphone installations where you want to eliminate a bass drum port hole in the resonant skin and having to use a microphone stand. Just drill an XLR hole in the bass drum and you're all set for plug and play kicking !

The Sonitus stuff is a mixed bag of sorts. Easy setup, stays in place, affects the sound as it should. The material itself is still more rigid than it should be (even thou this is the third generation). Rigidity is a problem because the stiffer the foam, the weirder it feels when you are playing. It might not affect you as much as me if you are not the bury-the-beater-type. I am, so it feels too stiff, rigid. The adjustability in this version helps slightly, but not as noticably as I'd like. Also, the adjustability is a nice feature, adds to your options on shaping the sound. So... half great, half bad. Weird I know, but... for the price, it is an experiment, but it might work great for you. I altered the edge (cut some foam out, was a hassle, but now, works as I need it to be. Try it!...
