Meinl Fat Stack - Matt Garstka

Meinl Fat Stack - Matt Garstka

Based on 3 reviews

This stack is expensive, but it is worth every cent and, as a matter of fact, the buyer ends up with three amazing cymbals by the price of one. The stack, created by Matt Garstka (Animals As Leaders) for the Artist Concept Series, can be described as a perforated 18 inch Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Crash above a perforated 16 inch Meinl Byzance Extra Dry China ? however there are some differences, besides the holes, to their non-perforated counterparts: they look more flexible and the hammering patterns are different. When stacked, these cymbals produce a earthy, trashy, dark, rich and dry noise. It?s a loud and powerful stack, without being aggressive or annoying, and it is very sensitive to the tension of the cymbal mate, meaning that one can extract a wide range of sounds, by loosening or...

Meinl 12" Classic Custom Trash Stack

I play open handed, so I like to have two voices for every type of cymbal on either side of my kit. I use a 16 over 18 stack on my right side, so I wanted something smaller, higher-pitched and "quicker" on my left. These are perfect for that. You can have them loose and they have a very cutting, trashy sound to them. Great for accents or for keeping time on in the right context. Or you can tighten them and have a very quick and crisp note, perfect for playing between these and the hi-hat. Also a really cool sound to use in linear fills. You can also change the way you stack them for some different sounds, or even change out the splash on top if you want to personalise them a little bit. Experiment and have fun with them. Being B10, they are very bright and can in some cases be...

Meinl 12" HCS Trash Stacks

I have start using this stack as part of my set up for the past month. They sit to my right, just above my 13" and 16" floor toms, almost opposite to my hi-hats. They can be easily mounted onto most single boom arms with a clamp. They can offer a new dimension to your playing and can be integrated into almost any groove, fill or genre of music you like. I find they work best played slightly open or looser, extending the decay a little further. The bottom cymbal can also be used as mini-china or o-zone and sounds equally amazing with a little more bite and sizzle. As a smaller stack, I was surprised how much they can cut through with a high-end attack and just how well they sit with my other cymbal choices. If you are looking to expand your effects sounds with cymbals at a...

Zultan 12" Dark Matter Splatter Staxx

I bought this stack just to play small accents from time to time, and I mounted it on a normal cymbal stand boom arm and a clamp to my hihat. The bottom cymbal is very thin (not the usual 12" splash thin) the top is slightly thicker, both have a unique sound on their own, together they sound best. The chick it produces is nice and dark yet it still cuts and is fairly loud. As to the hihat I am a bit more skeptical, as the thin bottom makes for the hihat rebound to be very poor, meaning any blazing fast 16th,32th note accents will not be possible and I do not recommend bashing it either. For certain studio situations yes, as a substitute 12" hihat just forget it. Overall a good cymbal if you know what you are looking for, sounds very simmilar to online sound demos.
