Paiste 2002 Classic 14" Sound Edge HH

Paiste 2002 Classic 14

Wow, am very impressed with this hi-hat! I work as a pro drummer, mainly playing funk, soul, hip hop and drum 'n' bass, and find most hi-hats far too thick, clunky and loud, especially when played open. I used to have the Paiste Alpha (basically budget version of this) which was good so I took a chance and splashed out more than I'd normally spend on this and it paid off, am thrilled with it! It is nice and thin, making it very responsive, and sit nicely in the mix, sensitively, and not overly cutting through over the kick, snare and other instruments, making it a great all - rounder for 'cleaner' music. If I'm honest I don't think this is really for rock guys as it's probably too quiet. The tone is fairly high pitched (almost like a 13") so it has a satisfying and...

Meinl 14" Byzance Hi-Hat Extra Dry

Meinl 14

Based on 4 reviews

These are very tasty indeed. The positive reviews here are pretty unanimous and I cannot disagree! I probably spent too long agonising over different Meinl hi-hats, and I eventually concluded that these had that something I was looking for. To be honest, any choice I would have made would have been an improvement over what I already had, but I am very glad that I chose these delightfully playable hi-hats. I love how dynamic these hi-hats can be — soft or loud, crisp or bold and trashy. I love them, I think they are really starting to open up my playing.

Paiste PST7 14" Hi-Hat

I bought these hihats as an upgrade from my old 13inch pst3s and after only a few practices I must say I’m extremely impressed. The quality is incredible and the finish is particularly brilliant, nice and shiny. In terms of sound, it’s very responsive and crisp but still has enough depth to stand out when playing closed half notes for example, there is also a decent amount of weight to them so you don’t feel like you’re going to crack them. One fact I would give is that they seem to scratch fairly easily (after practicing with metal brushes I noticed a few scratches but nothing out of the ordinary)

Zultan 14" Q Hi-Hat

They look great, some of the best looking cymbals on the market. The sound is quite distinctive. Open is a little bit trashy, good chic sound, clear stick definition. I agree with most others here in saying they're a fraction quieter than most. I'd say this is a benefit more than a drawback though as hi hats bleeding in to snare mics happens so often. This will have application in most play-styles, but I'd imagine the washy sound would be inappropriate in some contexts. My only criticism is that the hats don't sit totally flush, they sit slightly skewed and about 3mm of the bottom hat is visible on one side. I thing any difference this makes to the sound is negligible.

Istanbul Mehmet 14" 61st Vintage Hi-Hat

Great hihat for very good price. I was searching for a good bebop hihat for over a year. This one has everything needed for bebop but also funk. It has a great really chrispy "chick" sound. The stick definition is great. Playing the hihat half open it's possible to see how good the stick definition is and how the hi hat is not dry or too stiff. It has a nice dark and ( medium ) warm sound. The hi hat fits also for funk music. I would recomend this hi hat to everyone, for this price I have never seen or hear hihat like this.

Zildjian 14" K-Series Light Hi-Hat

Zildjian 14

Based on 2 reviews

I was using a set of ancient paiste hats with chunks missing so i was well overdue an upgrade. Getting the K Lights was a serious, serious upgrade. The top and bottom hats are different weights so you get a really beautiful dark sound but with it's own brightness on top. I play in a band where dynamics are key and the K lights can do it all. they sound gorgeous closed and played lightly but they can also hold their own when it gets loud on stage and offer a great slushy sound when half open. I was originally looking at getting the K Lights in the 13" but I'm glad i went for the 14. They give that extra bit of volume that I need for playing in bands but can also be controlled when I'm rehearsing/practicing. Superb hats.

Zildjian 14" A-Custom Mastersound

Zildjian 14

The zildjian 14" a-custom Mastersound hi hats are a beautiful thing, they are crisp and bright with a lovely 'chick' sound, lovely for playing disco, funk, rock and grunge grooves. The reason I bought these hats was for live small to medium sized venues where there's no need to mic up the drums (except the kick drum of coarse), but you want the hats to carry, well these hi hats certainly do carry, loads of volume. They have a lovely solid feel to them when you hit them and of coarse they look great! There is nothing bad I could say about these little beauties, as always with cymbals, you get what you pay for! Highly recommend...

Masterwork 14" Custom Hi-Hat

Really nice pair of hats. Useable in different music styles from jazz to metal etc. Unique sound, feels kinda heavy but in the same time it's quite dark sounding. Great stick definition when closed, opened it's really washy and severe, bright overtones. Cymbal finish is something i havent experienced before. At first it oxydates very easly, every fingerprint stays on the cymbal, after a while it stops, cleaning it with dry cloth every now and then helps as well. It feels kinda mat and floury, it's heavier than i thought, gives some mass to my cymbal case. After all this hi-hat is really good, price is super low, turkish cymbals rock. Recommend.

Zultan 14" Rock Beat Hi-Hat Medium

Zultan 14

Based on 1 reviews

Well! I bought them based on some videos and mostly on their price. Have to say I'm surprised how crisp, clear and articulated they sound. Have recorded 3 albums now with them and they fit all kinds of rock/metal, according to how you hit them. They have quite a different feel when you're handling them, kinda like if they're made of plastic, but that goes when you set and play them. Just have to say I don't like how they sound if they're too loose but I think that is more a matter of taste and preference. already bought two rides and two crashes after buying these, and these are the only cymblas I have that did't start breaking. Totally recommend.

Istanbul Agop 14" Mel Lewis Sign. Hi-Hat

Istanbul Agop 14

The snare is the most important drum, and the hihat is the most important cymbal. Every drummer needs to find the perfect hihat for his style and taste. This is MY perfect hihat. It may or may not be yours, but for me it has exactly what I look for in a hihat. I want a hihat to have a sweet-sounding "tick" that has an extended high end, but that is also warm and pleasant, and not harsh to the ears. I want a hihat to open up complexity at very soft hits, so it can be played very dynamically. I want it to have finely graduated half- or quarter-open sounds that are easy to control. I want the almost fully open slosh to be washy and warm. I want the foot chick to be soft and subtle, not aggressive. This hihat ticks all those boxes, in a way no other hihat does. I think it's the...
