Yamaha YTS-280 Tenor Sax

This is a great instrument. I needed a tenor that wouldn?t let me down without paying a fortune. You can?t go wrong with a Yamaha be it sax, bike, drums... Mine played great from top to bottom straight out of the box as did another I tested that led me to order this. I am playing for a living so I needed something that would play well without the big price tag. This horn does that. Plays in tune, lovely tone. Not too heavy. The key layout is a lot better than my old tenors. Below low C you can play faster parts easily whatever way they have set up those keys. The whole package is high quality. Beautiful finish. Nice modern case with loads of room inside for your mic and cable, multiple mouthpieces etc. The outer pocket has room for my laptop and cables and a bluetooth speaker so no...
Selmer Reference 36 Tenor Sax SE-TR36

The tonal quality is unrivalled and is a league above all the competition which is what a Selmer is all about, yes the competitions intonation and ergonomics are more or less on a par but they just don't have the edge with regards to its warmth and versatility of tone. I do have one criticism and that the pads are sticky which is annoying causing the usual troublesome valves to lift a millisecond or so late, this may have been my luck however was easily rectified by replacing them with Roo pads, I do remember my Series II sticking when I bought that back in 1988 but this cleaned and settled after a couple of months but not so with my Reference, hope this helps ya-ll... This is my first Saxophone ever and might be the only one for a very long time, because it was the main reason for me when i bought it. For me it had to be something durable and quality that will serve me many years. For a beginner it is important to have clear sounds, thats what this instrument gave me and i progressed confidently without doubting my sax. Now im progressing through my goal to give little concerts, that was another reason for me to choose this saxophone, it is more than a beginner sax.
Yanagisawa T-WO2 Tenor Sax

I learned tenor saxophone on an old Rampone & Cazzani DeLuxe from 1990. Switching to the Yanagisawa TW02 was such a huge improvement! The lowest notes are incredibly easier to blow, the mechanics is super efficient and fluid (especially the left-hand pinky keys). But, above all, I love the kind of sound that the solid bronze body produces, it is warm and slightly darker than usual, with an occasional "scratch" in the tone that is just lovely. On top of that, this sax ships with an excellent metal ligature and a sturdy nice-looking bag. I feel like I could play on this sax forever...
Yamaha YTS-82 Z 03 Tenor Sax

I play in a local jazz band and occasionally at festivals but most of the time, especially lately I croon away at home. I own a very old 50s sax (a King Zephyr) that has its foibles but sounds fantastic and an old Trevor James Classic, reliable but slightly clunky and not without its idiosyncrasies. Having had experience with other Yamaha instruments in terms of reliability, ease of playing (I have small hands) and excellent tuning I decided to buy my definitive working sax. I was blown away by how easy this sax is to play! On my horns so far I have always had some difficulty with the sub-tones especially in the low C sharp (when I could actually play one without the key sticking that is) b and b flat. On this instrument I can get a variety of subtle and quiet colours out of it without...

Yamaha YTS-875 EXS Tenor Sax

I'm a professional player. Tried this one because It is known to have the most focused and weighted tone in the yamaha range. The saxophone is very well built and deliver a solid centered tone but from my point of view it lacks some kind of personality and it's anyway still very bright. For the rest it has very good mechanism and a response that is quite linear but not direct and easy as other yamaha saxes. this is not necessarily a cons, maybe it has to be played a little more to be understood. I think this is because of some resistance put in place by the E1 neck... well suited for classical and maybe bright pop and r&b sax sound.. I wouldn't raccomand it if one wishes to develop a very personal tone. Anyway a very good pro horn.
Yamaha YTS-82 ZUL 03 Tenor Sax

I bought this saxophone almost a year ago and i bought it as my first professional level saxophone. The first thing i noticed was that it looks as if it is laqcuered an although it is not laqcuered, it is deffinetely protected by somekind of water based vernice and it is deffinetely not bare brass. After a Year of playing i havent even seen a hint of green patina anywhere although its not shiny any more.. The sound is really warm but not as dark as a rampone and cazane R1 jazz. It is not a focused sound but a wide sound. The ergonomics and its sound are very similar to a late 1950 mkVI selmer five digit i played. When i bought it i went to my technician to have it set up because it was leaking and was like every other new horn that is also shipped. Since then its exactly the same. Never...
Startone STS-75 Tenor Sax

Took me a while to get the hang of this low cost sax. Like most beginners, it was difficult to get even a sound out of this horn. Sounded mostly like a cow's f*rt! After practising correct mouth and hand positions and lip technique, I finally was able to get some usable melodies out of this saxophone. Took a few moths. Now what I had to do: Of course I had to buy 2,5 - 3 strength reeds. (The sax came only with one reed, soon chewed to pulp.) Also a good cleaning snake helped me to get rid of all the organic goo that invariably infests the innards. But the most important tip was (and is) to buy a good quality mouth piece. Well, a mouth piece might cost as much as the STS-75 sax, but I do not think you have to go that far. But still invest, like I did, some 40-50 euros on a decent mouth...
