Tama LBR1465 Sound Lab Snare

This snare has a really great sound and feeling, with the 32 strand snare wires you get at really fat sound. Only thing I am missing is die cast hoops for some extra crack in the sound. I will buy this later on when i have tried some more different heads. But after 7 months I am still very happy with the sound and the looks of the snare drum. The throw off is very sturdy and as with all Tama hardware - you know that you get quality that will hold up to road conditions. Kick ass product from TAMA once again!

This is a good intermediate introduction to metal snares. The hardware possibilities are many with both customizing the snare tension on the throw off side and the opposite side. Each lug have a quick release option when changing heads which makes it fast and easy to regain tension. The brass looks wonderful and it cracks beautifully. Still haven't changed the heads since the preseated heads sound wonderful. The brass sings nicely, tone is naturally high, attack as sharp and crackles like a good metal snare should do. Impressive

I've been dying to try something like the Black Beauty for a while, but being from a country where wages are extremely low, I've not been able to buy one. I discovered this snare on youtube and ever since I got it, it's ended up on every single drum recording I've done. Amazing value for money, though I will say I expected it to stay in tune a little longer. I usually have to tighten the lugs a bit after about an hour of tracking, which ain't a deal breaker, but just something to keep in mind.
Gretsch Drums 14"x6,5" Brooklyn Chrome/Brass

This snare is great. I can tune it high and low, and responds quite well. It has a nice focused sound, very warn and cuts through quite well. It can also be used with different snare wires, at the moment with a wider 42 canopus snare wire. It makes the snare sound quite fat, but yer articulate enough. The quality is great. The only thing I don?t really like is the little screws to fix the snare wires, they are too small. So changing the snare wires requires some patience. Great snare drum for the price and is USA made!

This is the snare drum I have been looking for. It's stunning in appearance (black finish with brass hardware) and the sound is excellent. It comes in 2 sizes, 5" and 6.5". I went for the smaller model as most of my playing is in jazz or folk situations although perhaps a rock drummer might go for the larger size. The only problem I have met is being aware how powerful a sound this drum can produce and remembering to adjust my playing accordingly. However when I play with a brass band even the 5" version can hold its own.

Yamaha has once again built an outstanding piece of musical instrument in accordance with their pristine standard of quality and affordability. This snare can be tuned loose or tight depending on the musical requirements. A looser tuning gives a fat big beat kinda sound while the tighter tuning gives a crack that can only be achieved with a brass snare. The only downside is that not every drumhead sounds good on it. I'm personally using a Powerstroke 77 on the top and it's my go-to now. Good job Yamaha!
DW 14"x5,5" Design Workhorse SD

I usually think DW are overpriced drums but I was in the market for a shallow brass snare and I came across this. It sounded great on online videos so I took a chance as the price to sound ratio piqued my interest. Tuned up it sounds great. A little dryer than expected but a lovely brass drum. The magnetic throw is great too. My only gripe with it was that the tuning lugs felt a bit stiff when tuning the resonant head high. These are Chinese made so at that price they had to skimp on quality somewhere. So to sum up, great sound for the price, the lugs don't feel high quality so that's why I deducted a star
