Squier Jazzmaster 40th Anniv LPB

...Hassle...

On arrival the contured body is already chipped,

the cardboard box is damaged at the side,

that is the box inside the box with Squier written

all over it, so who in his/her right mind has

managed it to pass the inspection or is there none?

In Indonesia they obviously do not work with gloves,

there are finger prints all over the headstock and

bits of goo along the neck. The tuners already

begin to corrode. The frets are kinda sharp, the

fret-board is dry, the inlays are nicely put in, there

are some tiny scraping marks at the binding above the

nut. The body`s wood is showing swelling at the back,

may be due to storage. The strings take some time

to stay in tune, the intonation is getting worse over night.

The action is high, but it is lowering while I play,

the bridge seems to be sinking into the body, the high E-string

is already touching the frets and buzzes, the guitar does

not stay in tune the neck is good but feels narrow so I am not

comfortable. If I would be working the truss-rod it would

improve the action only very little. This thing needs a shim and

a different bridge. The circuit is flawless, the sound is

Jazzmaster. I will not unpack the trem-bar because this is for

return so I can not comment on tuning stability, but

it is already bad enough without using it.

This is the second time that I return a Squier Jazzmaster

made in Indonesia. They are not finished as well

as the Chinese Squiers that I bought about 15 years ago.

For a Limited Run and Anniversary Model I think it is poorly

made even though the sound and the looks of the guitar

are quite appealing. The whole thing is downright disappointing.

If you are prepaired to spend the €349,-(looks like a real bargain)

and you are lucky to receive a clean guitar it may be worth it

after you put in time and money to adjust, because adjust you will.

I do not recommend this instrument....sincerely....

What a disappointment...

After some research I decided to pick this one up because I like the shape, the tones and the feel of offset guitars. Given the price and the quality Squier offers in recent years the Jazzmaster 40th Anniv seemed like a very nice deal.

After recieving the guitar, I soon discovered different major flaws with this guitar:

- the rythm tone control keeps spinning and doesn't function properly

- several screws in the pickguard and on the pickups are rusted (even the allen key that came with the guitar was rusty)

- half of the screws in the pickguard are misaligned/put in crooked

- there is a noticeable fault in the paint

- string and bridgebuzz all over the place (even for a jazzmaster), hence an inferior sound

Clearly not the guitar I was hoping for. Sure, most of the issues might be repairable, but one might expect more quality out of the box.

For a guitar for 400€, this Jazzmaster is just great! You get: A wonderful appearance, good build quality (despite scratching frets, which is solved in one evening) and a very comfortable case shape.

Poor Quality Control

Guitar arrived today but unfortunately with a catalogue of issues. Fretboard was drier than an alcoholic Stoker's tongue. There's something rattling inside the body cavity. Fretworks were very dusty/rough. Guitar was badly out of tune (amazing how many guitars I've bought that turned up in almost tone perfect tuning). The gold scratch plate was already scarred.Sharpish fret ends to top it all off. This really feels like I've picked up a ropey B Stock.

I'll give it a bit of a set-up but a bit of a disappointment. Having owned the J Mascis and the cherry red/gold classic vibe previously I would have to rate this as way below them in quality.

Great value, great guitar.

Treated myself to a new guitar after a decade of messing around with a Gibson SG, an Ibanez 7 string and a MIM Strat.

Following my guts I decided to go for these 40th annyversary models and boy, do they deliver.

The guitar came overall great out of the box, totally playable but, of course, if you know a bit how this guitar is supposed to be played and set up, it quickly turns from good to great. The neck is smooth, no sharp ends; the bridge and tremolo do their job well and the machine heads keep the tuning even under heavy abuse.

The neck pickup is absolutely lovely. Clean, dirty, distorted, it absolutely crushes anything.

The bridge one is... a bit weak for my tases (hence the 4 stars in sound) but nothing a good swap might overcome.

The gold tinted hardware is a bit... much, but after some abuse it "ages" wonderfully.

All in all I'd make some mods here and there to fit my playing style but it's simply a gorgeous, great guitar

Love this guitar, I put some weird and extremely thick strings on this guitar and sometimes tune them really really tight, but the guitar holds up well. the neck is perfect, not thin but not too thick to where it becomes obtrusive. The tremolo and bridge actually stay in tune extremely well. I abuse this guitar so much, and am always surprised to see it be relatively in tune after so much hitting and pulling of the strings. Also, unlike many other cheap guitars, this guitar is a perfect weight.

Only a few gripes, the electronics are a bit fragile. The rhythm switch after a few weeks of use sort of became floppy. the insides of it kind of bend out of place. I fixed it but after a day it's floppy again. Keep in mind though that I play very violently so by accidently hitting the switch a few times it may have broken it, so if you have a lighter hand the switch will probably be just fine. Also the pickup selector switch feels fine but it stopped working and made the pickups go silent, but again I also hit the switch really hard and its an easy fix to just push the two pins in the switch closer to the centerpiece.

so basically, this guitar is fantastic, buy it, but if your playing style is very aggressive I recommend switching the rhythm switch, or just completely remove the rhythm circuit from the guitar like I have done. And you may want to consider switching out the pickup selector. But everything else except these tiny easily fixable details, everything else is perfect and of high quality.
