Stairville AFH-600 DMX Hazer Reviews
good hazer
use for small parties.
pros:
lots of haze
cons:
too much haze in minimum automatic mode
Died after a few uses
Bought mine just over 12 months ago. I always found that the auto mode was useless. Either No haze or too much even though there is a 0 to 100 setting, it is not linear in any way. 0 is off, 1 was nearly full output.. Via DMX i learned to live with it, just switching the haze on when needed, but during a busy gig most times i'd forget about it and just leave it off as again, even with dmx control, setting it low produced too much haze and i've set a fire alarm or 2 off with it like that. so I just switched it on for a minute, then off. Not the best way to use one when you've other things to be doing.
It would also have been nice to have some control over the fan, as it is quite noisy in quiet environments.
Now this one is dead, I have to decide if I will buy another, or choose a different model altogether. Someone else said they have had 3-4 of them now and they all fail after a short amount of use, so i think it might be the latter option I go for.
Cheap and reliable
Pros:
- Very cheap
- There's DMX input wich is very useful
- Easy to use
Cons:
- The blower is not too strong, an additional fan is recommended
- A little bit loud (it's quite acceptable. We didn't hear when just one person was speaking.)
Excellent
Excellent hazer for the price works works well in small/medium venues, economical on haze fluid. It is a little noisy but is expected with a hazer in its price range.
I would highly recommend the hazer to anyone needing a reasonable priced hazer.
Shouldn't have spent the money
I've got several stairville items, but I used this a few times, The haze was ok, usually too thick or non existant, followed by it not working.
Pro: if its a 1 off gig, that you don't actually want to see any stage fine, but probably cheaper to Hire
Con: Its not great haze output, breaks down.
My friend has the model up, which is doing great though.
very good!
It works very well, and it crates a great quantity of smoke.
I've used both inside and outside and ti behaved very well.
you can control it via dmx or on the machine, but there isn't a direct button. if you want to control it directly on the machine you have to go in the menu and select the intensity (1-100) and it will go continuously at that intensity.
if you run it at a low level (1-55) the output of smoke will not be smoothly.
High output at a low price - what more could you want?!
This haze machine has a great output (although the fluid I am using sometimes makes it look more like smoke than haze - but I don't think that is anything to do with the machine). I have just used it for a big light show and it was perfect to allow the audience to see the beams, and filled the room really well. DMX control is a great feature and the only real downside is the noise. It became a little bit distracting at points during my light show (and I could imagine this potentially being an issue in the theatre environment) - however it would be absolutely fine for discos or louder situations. It's a great machine, and I am really glad that I bought it!
Works well for 6-8 months
I've had four of these hazers now. They work amazingly well for a few months but the impeller tends to burn out and stop pumping haze. I use the recommended haze machine cleaning fluid on a regular basis and the machines are never left empty or running for more than a few hours but all seem to give up working after 6-8 months. I now have 1 working machine constructed with various parts of the other dead 3. Highly recommended for light to occasional use only. The haze output is even and plentiful, the DMX control simple and effective, but the longevity leaves a little to be desired.
Good, with bad bits
I have recently purchased this hazer for a production I'm working on in a 250 seat theatre.
We have used many hazers of various price ranges, from cheap Chinese ones to Smoke factory ones. These have all been hired and we really wanted to get hold of one of our units. I came across this one for a shocking good price with decent features and reviews. I bit the bullet and purchased this. It came with-in 4 days and had no shipping implications - all good there :D
I filled it with PHF hazer fluid. hooked it up to a Zero 88 Frog and it filled the room within 5 minutes. A 250 person theatre in 5 mins! Very impressed with the output.
The build it all metal, with grippy feet and good DMX connections.
Enough on praising the machine.
This machine is loud, like loud. It gets picked up by the overheads. This machine seems to have a toileting problem as it leaks, not much, but it's still inconvenient.
To conclude, this machine is a great buy if noise is not a problem. I've been using this machine a lot over the last 4 days and it has not disappointed.
A GREAT HAZER
I was using its predecessor and that was great but this is even better. Great build quality and fabulous dmx controllability. I use it in all kinds and sizes of venues and fits the bill perfectly
Handy hazer for the price
I find the AFH600 Hazer very handy for the price. I'm using it for parties, musicals and shows. The auto mode gives you various levels to set the amount of haze to produce so useful for keeping a nice haze in a venue without having to use DMX. Just set it up and leave it puffing!
For musicals and shows DMX control is perfect.
Light and easy to transport as well.
Quality
This little machine is just quality, filled a 12mx24m Marquee in 10 mins. For the size it's out put is amazing.
Just bought my 2nd one recently and deffo worth paying under £100.
Downfall is no on board Fan, but doesnt matter, still a quality product
Great hazer
Great for small and medium sized events ,and suppose also for some larger events which I haven't used it for. Level of noise is acceptable ( in my case used with music ) and output very fine.
Incredible that a hazer can be bought at this price.
highly recomended
we've had this a while now, its been trouble free & have just ordered a second one ( L & R stage) using the HD fluid it gives a very strong coverage, even outside. I have decided to use 2 because used outside in windy conditions, its easier to control the amount of haze
Considering the price of the product and the competion on the haze market, the Stairville DMX hazer does a good job.
In small to medium rooms, the haze can be quite difficult to maintain at a steady level. Larger rooms however, is easily covered in haze as the product can produce a heavy stream of haze, approacing smoke levels.
I can recommend the hazer for everybody, even the professionel, since the price is low and should the unit malfunction, it doesn't cost a fortune to replace it.
Very good hazer
I have a little problem with fog fluid, but for small gigs is great
Excellent product love the stand alone function
Just switch it on, very fast to heat up and chose how much fog you want it to blow and let it be. Very economical.
Excellent
Great Hazer!
very powerful for size and nice flow of haze. Lasts a long time
