As a long time Cubase/Nuendo user, I've always heard good things about how fun Reason is to use and finally decided to pick up a copy when it happened to be on sale. Fun is exactly the right way to describe Reason. The interface is fun, the rack is fun, even the mixer is fun. Everything about the software is fun, and the included instruments are generally speaking of good quality as well. It certainly pales in comparison to Cubase when it comes to features and the overall workflow, but at the same time as long as you approach it more like an instrument it doesn't really feel like it needs more stuff. Integrating the rack as a VST inside Cubase was also a great way to get some older projects moving forwards, so definitely a solid recommendation from me.

Bitwig is a modular daw that`s super stable has regular updates that add new features and has Linux support. It has to mature with some of it`s features but it`s already at a very good level! Everyone that`s familiar with Ableton will feel at home but will surely miss some things like audio to midi and the midi capture. Let`s hope they get added at the next update. The Grid adds another dimension to the creative playground you get with it! Devs had some trouble with the community after the release of spectral suite as an addon but they got their lesson and realized it was a bad approach. Of course everyone who is paying yearly support does it so to get the latest and greatest. Good for bed room producers or better said beat maker. You can make so much with it, it's so simple it doesn't steal your creativity! I prefer to make my songs with Fl and then go over to Ableton - I think it's just better for mixing :) And I'm talking about Audio Engineering not put an eq and comp on every channel and push the limiter on the master to the fullest. FL Studio - perfect for making beats and sent them to engineers Ableton, Protools, Studio 4 - perfect for mixing stems and vocals this is just my view of this all if you're happy with fl and if your tracks sounds good to you and other people listen to it then you doing good and keep on. The DAW is similar to any other DAW, except the drag and drop workflow makes it way more effective and faster especially for users who just getting involved to music. Artist version is more compact, works on weaker device and handier who just want to record/make music draft for bigger project, share projects with other musicians or additional home studio equipment. I would recommend to buy the artist if you are just involving yourself on music production and you are on a budget - definitely not a beginner DAW but it is very compact and easy to handle.

For beginners, musicians,...those that not use it for exporting all tracks at once and need it just for basic ideas demos or small projects...this is everything you ever need. U can always upgrade it later. Professional sound/end product can be done with this program if you know what you are doing and have engineers skills which you need to learn. And without training your ears and room...there is no software that is better or worst...there are plugins that will done things instead you..but that is other conversation :) . I bought it for my son and it's all he needs right now...to record his ideas and learn basic recording/mixing stuff.

I've been using Protools since the early nineties, alongside Logic and some other DAWs along the way. PT is an industry standard and so the main reason I use it nowadays is so I can exchange files easily when working in a team. It is more precise and robust in the way it deals with detail and sync compared to Logic which is more for creativity and can be a bit fluffy around the edges on a technical level. My main gripe with Protools is its inflexibility - you can't reassign the keyboard shortcuts for example and the way you have to lay the screen out is sometimes not ideal. But apart from that it is a fully mature program that you can do whatever you want to with and it works very well.
