I've bought this to record output from HX Stomp when I'm practicing, with backing tracks, getting lessons so I have everything recorded or just saving some ideas right there.. For backing tracks, I play from iPad (connected to HX) to two tracks (stereo linking them), then bouncing, and then playing just the guitar. This way I have two separate tracks. I know I can use HX Stomp and iPad with Garage Band or equivalent, but since I'm using Quantiloop, I can't record like I want to on iPad, so it's easier with this device. It's also cool that it can serve as a practice headphone amp. The headphones output is really clean, really sounds good. It has enough effects for practice, plus metronome/drums. I like that it's got a screw for putting it on a stand, so...

The first thing you notice about the Tascam DP 008 EX is that it is very small; barely bigger than a paperback book at about 8 inches by 5 inches. But it certainly packs a LOT of features into a small package. The unit is attractive and professional looking, with a bank of individual knobs at the front, 3 for each track: volume, left/right pan and reverb. The display screen seems very small at first but it is very easy to read, being back lit in a nice bright orange colour. It uses a series of menus to make choices in a step by step fashion, which you will quickly get used to. The power supply is sold separately but is worth getting because although the 4 AA batteries make it portable and convenient to use anywhere, they only last about 5 hours of continuous use. The zoom R8 is perfect to use as a very portable recording device, it easily fits in a guitar case or a bag. You can record on the go with the in-built mics that actually do a very good job, given the big number of pre-amp effects and plugging a guitar or bass. I often use it as a usb interface when recording on a computer and it has been very reliable as such... all in all, its my favorite recording device for its wide range of possibilities. I would recommend it for guitar practice / jam along device, 8 tracks portable device and usb interface...a great product!

Bought this as I am not a huge fan of DAW anymore. I didn't require all the features of a DAW like plugins and such. This unit gives me 16 tracks and an easy to use interface. I have a vision impairment and although the screen is a little small,it is perfectly usable. For me personally it's a nice compromise between old school tape multi trackers and digital ones. Very happy with mine. I would like to see an Android version of the wireless interface but the R20 alone gets 5s across the board. Nice job.

Device on it's own is extremely small and portable. The first thing i used it for was room recording during band practice using the 2 built in condensor mic's. The sound quality achieved was considerably better than expected. Recording, mixing and bouncing are all wasy to do and tutorials are included in the manual that walk you through the steps. The only negatives i encountered are that you can record either one stereo or 2 mono tracks simultaneously, no more, and that it can take a surprisingly long time to mix a stereo master. All in all a good, easy to use product that may be a bit short on features, but at this price it's a great little toy/tool.

After having worked with DAW-software for a long time now, I thought it was about time to add this machine to my setup. I like the way it looks, I like the functions and I like the way it sounds. It is easy to use, just allow yourself the patience to work your way through the manual and you'll be fine. Working with a DAW has its pros and cons, the cons for me being spending way too much time editing, tweaking and what not, which was sometimes almost sucking the human feel right out of things. The Tascam is a great recording device to indeed have that 'live feel' to your recording sessions. For me, it brought about fresher ways of approaching the arrangement of a song. Great value for the money, so go for it!

What a great gadget....I was looking for something to get song ideas down and had tried other recorders but they didn't allow for multiple layering....this baby lets you stick down drum beats, bass parts, rhythm guitars and lead work and vocals and lets you master your work so it can be downloaded and burnt to Cd. Everybody knows what it's like trying to get new songs done via practices...well this lets you get a proper working demo which is absolutely brilliant. You can do live recording of work also with decent sound quality letting you hear how your band or yourself are playing. It's easy to use, with well laid out menus with enter and exit prompts so you don't inadvertently dump anything you wanted to keep, a multitude of boss effects and if you use a large memory card you can put...
