Best kept secret
This has to be the most useful gadget a guitarist could ever have. There is NO song you won't be able to figure out with this. You can slow down the tempo to a snail's pace to hear what notes/ techniques are being used. You can repeat a section over and over easily to become fluid with tricky parts. You can change the key to suit your tuning by semitone or fine adjustment in one semitone. Don't underestimate this as the downloaded song could be tuned slightly up or down (SRV will not be a problem). It has a tuner. It has several amp and effects built in. You just add songs to the memory. Plug in your guitar. Plug in your headphones and learn in silence. A godsend.
Only issues I have is the screen is not lit so difficult to see and some MP3 file types will not play. If this happens use Audacity to convert them.
Otherwise I love it.
Loved it.
Made me want to play guitar even more.
Very useful to transcribe songs and ideas
Nice abilities to slow down what you listen too and good to get ideas down too, doing overdubs as well.
Also playing with some amp sim and effects makes it more fun when not able to use a full amp.
Only thing I miss is built in mike to also use voice to record ideas.
Very good practise aid
The Tascam has been very useful in practising songs. You can store (almost) any mp3 in the SD card and play it. Key and speed change is easy and fast and it allows very accurate fine tuning of the key. The playback sounds are completely fine for the purpose.
In the recording mode or headphone use the internal amp is also quite fine for the purpose, although the options are only clean and distorted (they call it "effect").
You can store the songs/backing tracks in folders and the display and browsing buttons are very intuitive and finding what to play is easy.
I've been using this thing really lot and am generally very satisfied with it. My only complaints are about the looping - generally you just set the starting point and the endpoint but you have to listen the entire loop section. I'd wish for an option to loop and entire song with one click, And fastwind towards the endpoint after hitting the start...
Well worth the price...
Tascam GB-10
A must have tool for the bassist who is serious about his practice. Very simple to get up and running with this unit. I play primarily in a covers band and this unit allows me to load up a track and play along. I can slow the track down in order to nail the bass line. Highly recommended
easy trainer
Have had this gadget for two weeks only and still finding out how to work it! The handbook is 97 pages long and seems very detailed and for non techno types like me a little daunting- BUT it just needs to be digested slowly, a little at a time. As a complete beginner to the Bass guitar this gadget has allowed me to download my tutorial CD's ( and one or two simple songs) and play along with them at a speed I can handle. Although I now have access to an amplifier I am able , with the Tascam, to HEAR my bass and practice without annoying the family and neighbours with, or without, it. The unit works fine, and is loud enough, used alone. Another reviewer has stated that a backlight would be good, and I agree. The only downside to this Tascam is the poor quality of the screen image - I suppose we have got used to seeing everything crystal clear, and in colour - and this screen is a little disappointing. But hey, we bought the thing to train, play along with our favourite tracks and record our efforts (!) and for that it works fine. Its a brilliant tool for not a lot of money. Go get one today. You won't regret it.
