Zoom B2 FOUR

After trying out alot of other pedals and multi FX pedals in stores and from my friends, I settled for this one. As an amateur bassist in a hobby band, it has everything I need, and then some. Build quality looks sturdy for a plastic unit, all the buttons feel great and the layout is very intuitive. You have all the input and output connectors you may need, effects are all good at worst, awesome in some instances. 6 impulse responses are very useful and cover a wide range if sounds. Tons of presets, perhaps even too many. A bit of a learning curve, which is understandable with the amount of features crammed in, but just about everything is footswitch operated. Good as a practice tool as well, with all the drum patterns and a built in looper.

In my opinion, Zoom has got this category cornered. The B1X Four (and the B1 Four for that matter) will give you possibilities for modeling your bass sound that'll keep you busy for months if you don't watch out. ;) It is capable of doing a lot of things. For starters, it will give you a *lot* more control over the tone of your bass -- you don't need an active bass anymore to get the same kind of tone control. It also comes with a load of dynamic, modeling, and overdrive effects. I don't really care for the distortion-type effects, but the modeling effects (phasers, flangers, choruses, that kind of stuff) are great, and the dynamic effects (compression, slow attack) can be indispensible. The effects can be ordered in patches; each patch will hold up to five effects, and you can store...

Zoom Multi Stomp MS-60B

If you don't want to take a whole pedalboard worth of gear with you, this is a great product. It fits nicely in my bass' hard case and I have it set up with a few of my favourite presets such as a chain of compressor/limiter and EQ. For live work I could see it as a bit of a fiddle to reliably and quickly switch between presets - there is a feature that allows you to do this, but you have to be looking down at the little LCD screen to check what's going on. The in-built tuner is perfectly OK, not a Boss TU-3, but OK. If you factor in the price, the form factor, the LCD screen, the battery life on a pair of AA batteries, the build quality (metal body) and the sound quality this is a winner, despite its inherent fiddly-ness. It would be totally awesome if it had a MIDI interface that...

Zoom B1Four Bass Multi Effect

I was already tempted by it while it was sold for a 100€. Reviews on Youtube and other medias were all great. When I saw it down to 66€, it was an insta-buy. Effects and amp sims are sweet. Looper and rythm are nice addition even if I don't really care for them as of right now. Its shell is plastic but nonetheless it feels heavy and solid. I was affraid to receive a china made crappy gizmo, happy surprise. While unpacking it, I was anyway a bit disappointed when I saw that it was sold without any power source other than the offered 4 AA-batteries. Quick inspection showed also no sing of a real power switch on the pedal. My first thought was that I will be forced to install those batteries each and every time I will be using the pedal. Well call me stupid or ignorant, its...

Zoom B6

I have used zoom bass effects units for many years now and with the B6 they have brought across the familiar features of the B3 and B3n but is in a much more intuitive layout which makes using the unit really easy. The touch screen functionality is great with easy to understand icons to programme patches etc. The AB function allows a 2nd bass to be hooked up which for players who play electric with different set ups on separate basses or acoustic players. Great to see the looper with longer recording time and sd card addition to extend the allowable recording time. Having capability of layering multiple effects and easily switching them on and off via the floor switches is great. It also allows you switch between patches when looping which the b3n didn't which is nice. I've only had yhe...
