Yamaha YEV-105 NT Electric Violin
Based on 4 reviews
This is my first experience of playing an electric instrument. I chose Yamaha YEV-105 NT Electric Violin not only for it's elegant design, but because of 5th string and well known Yamaha quality. Sounds very quiet of course when not connected to an amplifier, but is enough to tune and even practice if you don't want to wake up your neighbors, for example. Of course it won't replace an acoustic instrument, because as much as I love the variety of sound options, I don't realy like that I cannot control the strength of a sound only with a pressure of my bow. I think now that it would be very usefull to have a volume pedal. The time is needed to ajust to the strings level and number, but it's much less confusing, then when one starts to play the viola after playing violin. It's light...
Yamaha YEV-104 NT Electric Violin

I have played the old Yamaha SV200 for about 10 years and was never very satisfied with the sound. I love the YEV, both for its sound and for its looks! Yes, a violin should be made if natural wood. On low volumes the sound is very sweet and quite acoustic, especially with some EQ and some reverb. On higher volumes, it holds up very well and stands out in a band-sound. tip: the Line 6 G10S transmitter fits exactly with this fiddle! tip: play this fiddle with an acoustic amp for a great warm sound!
NS Design WAV5 Violin Amberburst Gloss

Very happy with my purchase. For this price I got a really good violin. It is extremely quality made. It feels very natural to play, I had to get used to 5 strings, a weird shoulder rest and chin rest, but once I got used to it, it became very comfortable. I wasn't really happy with the strings, they were too soft, but I wrote to the company and they sent me new strings free of charge, which was really nice of them and the problem with strings was instantly gone. My plan is to buy ToneDexter and try making it sound more acoustic.
NS Design NXT5a-VN-BK-F Violin Fretted
Based on 2 reviews
I was looking for a 5 stringed, fretted electric violin that can sound accoustic as well. This one is the best fit for my needs. It looks a bit strange, but feels just like a regular violin when you play it. Sound quality is lovely especially if you put some post processing on it. Frets are very useful for intonation, while still allowing vibrato. I had no issues switching back and forth between my regular acoustic violin and this one. Just don't push your strings too hard, or you'll hurt your fingers and wear out your strings. Speaking of strings, replacing them is rather annoying; but once they're installed, tuning is great. The shoulder rest is quite comfortable and adjustable, but slightly annoying to take on or off.
Gewa Novita 3.0 UA 5-Str. Violin RB

First of all, this violin just looks beautiful. It is elegant and the natural wood finish looks classy. Also love the open scroll design, very useful if you need to quickly grab it out of your stand (if you have one). It plays very well like an acoustic violin. The dimensions are the same (only the neck is a bit thicker to accommodate the 5th string), the weight is almost the same (and very well balanced!) and the action is very nice. Once you are used to a 5-string and the slightly tighter string spacing, you don't want to go back. I love the geared tuning pegs. They are smooth and make absolutely no noise when turning them. The fine tuners are built in these pegs, so you have to turn them quite a bit if you change strings. I feel the universal adapter for your own shoulder rest is an...
Fidelius HK-6 Stag Beetle Violin 6-str
Based on 1 reviews
I'm a professional violinist and have used many electric violins over the years. However a 6-string instrument is rather a speciality and needs to offer not only good sound and build quality, but also ease of use. The Fidelius HK-6 offers all of this: The key thing for me is that care has been taken in the spacing of the strings and the curvature of the fingerboard, making this instrument far more playable than other 6-string violins I have tried. Perhaps the beetle design might take some getting used to, and may not be to everyone's taste, but I rather like it, and absolutely love the inlaid wood which gives a very striking appearance. The pickup quality seems excellent, and I have no issues with the sound the instrument produces: I use it mostly for live-looped arrangements, but will...
NS Design WAV4 Violin Amberburst Gloss

As a bass guitarist of some years I decided without any forethought to buy a violin - as I have all the necessary amplification and effects - I read music (bass and treble clef) and I have a good nimble left hand I was excited to learn something new. So after much research on You Tube I decided to order the NS Wav. The instrument arrived on time and in good order - tuned up plugged in and bowed my first note.... not a sound !! Plucking the string produced a very nice sound but nothing with the bow. Back to Yuo Tube and discovered I need to 'rosin the bow'. All guitar effects sound amazing on this violin. Sustain as long as you like. 'Echo' and 'Reverb' - wonderful plus all the other effects available I decided to get a non active instrument - my amps are powerful enough though for...
Harley Benton HBV CC Electric Violin 4/4 RL
Based on 1 reviews
I didn't want to spend much as this is my first violin and I am just learning. After buying different violin around the same price i run into a real issue with tuning. It was impossible to tune as the pegs, which i found out later are very temperamental when it comes to humidity. Anyway I couldn't tune that violin and I returned it. Then i found this model and it was the best decision ever. I wasn't sure as this looks like a new system so i wasn't convinced because I didn't find any videos on youtube etc. But the tuning is super simple and the violin stays in tune for days. I am really happy about the purchase and I am happy that I will not have to spend a lot of time fighting with tuning, and I can just focus on learning how to play.
NS Design CR5-VN-AM Electric Violin
Based on 1 reviews
This violin sounds great and has a very original and appealing design. NS designs have been introducing less expensive series (NXT and WAV) but the CR remain the top of the range, with active electronics and solid maple body and neck. The dual mode preamp allows you to choose between a thinner (supposedly more acoustic?...) sound, and a more full bodied one. The Polar pickup system has two positions, one for playing with bow, the other for pizzicato. The pizzicato option is great, with the sound on the lower strings resembling that of a fretless bass. The height of the strings can be adjusted and the tuning stability is remarkable. While you can adjust the shoulder rest to your comfort, the chinrest is not adjustable. It took me a while to get comfortable with the violin, it is a bit...
Harley Benton HBV 990BCF 4/4 Electric Violin
Based on 8 reviews
The Harley Benton HBV 990BCF is of quite good quality and the only thing/problem I could find on my violin was that the LINE OUT jack was a bit of (I could plug it in and have no sound at all and then by twitching the plugged in contact a bit the sound would come back). If you buy this model and get the same problem try that before sending it in for repairs because the quality of this violin is just that of a electric beginner violin or just if you want something to play around with. For the price it is a very nice beginner electric violin.
