Sweet & unusual instrument
Another impulse buy but one I really like. Sounds much deeper than a mandolin and is tuned CGDA like a tenor guitar, tenor ukulele or tenor banjo. It has a sweet bright tone from the double sets of strings, and is great for picking out Irish or other traditional tunes. You can strum chords on it but it's better as a melody instrument I think. The pickup works really well and has EQ settings to get the best out of it via amp or PA. Definitely a good buy. Loses stars as the intonation is tricky to get right and I had to do some work on the nut as some of the string slots had been cut too deep on my instrument.
Exceeded expectations
As a lefty it is very difficult to get semi acoustic instruments. I was really surprised with the mandola. It arrived on time and once tuned up I was really pleased with the tone, volume, and action. Delighted with it.
