Purchased as a Christmas present for my Son. In the flesh, the penguin is a highly detailed, textured, rubberised plastic figure. Sadly, the pictures on the website do not illustrate how good it actually looks! The penguin won't scratch anything that you care to place it on, it's rubberised plastic! Although I wouldn't advise leaving it directly on top of a piano for any length of time without a mat underneath, just in case it might interact with the finish! It's highly stable thanks to those large orange feet & keeps his eye on you whilst practising or playing! The tick/tock sound of the metronome is classic Wittner! The weight, sorry bow tie :-) is easily adjusted. The BPM scale is highly legible alongside text descriptions of the speed. Highly recommended!

This is great for different locations and traveling. It is true that the numbers are hard to see, but many things are when you start to need glasses. It is loud enough to hear over Guitar, Tin Whistle or Violin and has the visual input. The inside has some plastic, which is annoying. The Key doesn't screw in, on the storage location, so don't hold it upside down, over a drain, when opening The Metronome. Also, a wood coloured alternative, that is not Mahogany, would be good. This is a great Metronome.

I teach the piano to primary school children and bought this metronome as an alternative to the electronic ones. In this computer age, children find the mechanical movement and sound more engaging than the beep of yet another electronic device. Though the case is entirely plastic it's resilient enough for the metronome to be carried to and from school in a box of books, so long as you're careful with the winder on the side. It doesn't come with any bag, though, so needs to be wrapped up to avoid scratches to the gloss finish. The clicking sound is stronger and richer than you might expect -- just as loud as wooden equivalents I've used, though with a slightly different tone. The tempo adjustment works in the conventional way (governed by the laws of physics): like most mechanical...

This is one hell of a metronome! I was expecting something robust and heavy but instead I got something light-weighted, yet really well-made, durable, and built with trust-worthy materials (that look really nice, too! - I love the looks of alder solid wood). The mechanical mechanism is great (super accurate) and the bell can be easily programmed. The sound is a classic - it doesn't sound "fake", like modern plastic, but "real", like old wood and I, really like that! The bell sounds quite good, too (yet, if you program if too fast the beats will become just one ugly mess of sound but that's natural, I suppose - it is made to sound sporadical and not beat-to-beat, like the metronome itself). It's not really portable so, for that, I would recommend a digital (smaller)...
