Valeton Surge EP-2 Mini
2-in-1 Volume and Expression Pedal

bad cheap pedal
It's purpose is only to kill sound completelly. Because it reduces gain and not volume. The level or gain/volume reduction is not the same when u use pedal. My advice is to get a different pedal not the cheapest one
Does What It Says on The Tin
Surprisingly well built for the price. Feels quite sturdy under the foot. I just wish the mechanism was a bit smoother, as it makes a little bit of noise and has some resistance, but I'll try to spray some WD40 on it and see if it improves. Overall, as an entry level volume pedal, it doesn't disappoint.
Not great as a volume pedal
It is a cheap plastic pedal. OK for expression, not great for volume, as it seemed that the pot was not at the end of its travel when in the fully on position, so it always turned down the signal at least a little.
Useless
While the quality of the materials seems OK (very solid casing), the Valeton Surge EP-2 Mini was useless for me because of its extremely small size and short movement range.
A human foot simply needs a sufficient movement range in order to change the volume in a desired and smooth way.
At the time of purchase i did not have enough money to buy something more expensive, but in the end it was wasted money as cannot use it at all.
I should have waited a bit to have enough money to buy a properly sized volume pedal.
Affordable and Pedalboard Friendly
Does it's job, is very easy to use despite the size, very light, very small and pedalboard friendly and very very affordable.
not perfect
Two main flaws.
The first one is the design flaw. It has some bump on the bottom that prevents putting on the pedalboard with velcro. I have never seen such strange design solution in any other pedal. So, this pedal is NOT A PEDALBOARD FRIENDLY.
The second issue is that the operation is not smooth. You clearly can hear steps in the parameter you are controlling.
vey good
very good volume pedal. it works flawlessly, it doesn't take much space on the pedalboard and it doesn't need power. all perfect for my needs
Simple but effective
Serves a simple purpose, good for the price, small footprint, doesn't seem as well built as more expensive versions but hasn't failed me yet. Never used it as a volume pedal but works perfectly as an expression. Would recommend as a cheap controller to explore pedals that have an expression function.
Handy
Very compact. Works well.
You get what you pay for, I guess
The pros:
- cheap
- can be used as volume or expression pedal
The cons:
- cheap build, but that was expected for that price
- the main con for me is that it's pretty hard to get to a middle point. I think I would have been better off getting a more expensive model.
In summary, it does the job as long as you don't expect too much from it, and there's a reason it's so cheap.
