It took me almost two years before I decided to purchase this bass. It has been on my wish list for a long time. The reasons why I hesitated were the price and the sound samples I found on Youtube. I did not really hear the sound of a double bass until I saw a few videos online. So it was possible to resemble a double bass! When I received my Takamine bass, the setup was harsh. A high action. So I used a saw and a veil to make it more playable. The sound was OK but not enough like a double bass. I still had a David Gage Realist Copperhead pick up and installed it on my Takamine. Then the fun started. The sound was getting a lot closer to a double bass by bypassing the built in electronics. No battery problems either. The built in pickup along with the electronics provide a wide variety of...

I'm quite new in fretless bass, its my only second fretless(previous was extra cheap and had some unsolvable troubles with fretboard), but this Guild one is really nice. I really liked quality of body and tuning pegs, pickup system has really good sound also. Only difficulty was in switching from standard/longscale instruments to shortscale Guild one, but it's only a question of time :) I'm also surprised why Guild didn't use tapewounds by default for fretless model since it's not easy to find my favorite tapewounds in local shops. But anyway, it's 100% value for money. It's hard to find another such high-quality instrument in this price segment.

I'm no longer a gigging bassist, so this is for home studio recording only. Only four stars for features rather than five for the following reasons: The Fishman preamp sounds great but it is very limited. Just volume & tone which is not a problem in itself, but the tone control is very subtle & doesn't do a whole lot, so there is no great tonal variety, it just does what it does. Luckily it sounds great! One good thing is that the fret lines actually go around the side of the neck, so can be easily viewed from the playing position, this is a nice touch. Also the gigbag is quite nice quality, pretty decently padded. But less forgivable is the strap pin situation. Firstly, you only get one. This is a bit stingy in itself (such an instrument would definitely need two, I wouldn't...

I was looking for an acoustic fretless bass, with that classic double-bass-like sound, at an affordable price (it's not easy to find acoustic fretless basses, especially this cheap, let alone with 5 strings). This instrument is exactly what I wanted and even better, and so fun to play! It is my first fretless, as well as my first 5 string. I'll list the pros and cons below (though it was difficult to find any cons, this instrument is perfect!) PROS: -Classic double bass like sound, great lows and highs, and that "maaww" sound when you slide -Very well built, is lightweight but feels solid -Beautiful glossy black finish, certainly a looker! -Smooth feel, easy to slide CONS: -The low B string is a bit muddy compared with the others, it's not a huge problem though and can be...

I had been playing some acoustic shows with my band, and wanted to play something other than an electric bass. I suppose I really wanted a double bass, but I neither had the funds or any way of transporting such a beast! I did some research, and came across the Kala U-Bass - which I came close to ordering until I discovered this. It cost me less than £100, and is amazing value for money. I've used it at several acoustic shows with my originals band, and also for a few numbers with my function band - for covers of songs where a double bass was used on the original recording. The general feedback I've received is it doesn't sound at all how it looks. Expect some confused faces when you gig this! I've used directly into a PA system and my regular bass guitar amp. In both cases...

I waited a few days before writing this review to ensure it would be accurate. I'm more than satisfied with this bass. For the price, I seriously doubt you can find a better instrument (even used). It came well packaged and very playable out of the box. There were a few minor finishing problems (paint between the sound hole & neck not finished, fretboard needed lemon oil treatment & the 12th fret marker looked a bit odd) but nothing that affects it's playability and overall quality. Others have mentioned that it's not very loud (acoustically) but I find it could easily compete with a 6 string acoustic at normal volume. I may even install a sound-hole cover to reduce it's acoustic volume. Basically, it sounds as good as it looks... And it does look very nice, as I've received...
