Perfect for Metal!
In metal, you need a clicky and snappy kick, which is easily achieved with the plastic end of the beater - that's why I bought it.
It's great, sturdy, but I'm not exactly sure if it'll be compatible with other pedals from different brands.
Great beaters
Great beaters from Yamaha. Felt and plastic sides tk accommodate Different sounds and feels. For me the plastic side was the best as I’m in a metal band (from once we came) and need as much projection as possible which these provided

Nice beater, fairly weighted, good balance, durable felt material, more punch from kick. Professional, will last for years.
