Solid choice between a Les Paul and an SG

I wanted a hard tail guitar in addition to my super strat. Couldn't decide whether to get a Les Paul or an SG. This Yamaha with Humbuckers seems to be between the two. Didn't regret buying it a couple of months back.

The guitar is very well put together. It is a rock solid instrument, can take the heat.

There are two weak points I discovered over the past couple of months of pretty much daily use (yeah, this is my go-to guitar now, that pretty much says it all). 1 potentiometers: they work, but I think I can get better ones. This is an easy and cheap fix, so Yamaha compromised at the right place. 2 the guitar is relatively heavy, not a biggie to me. This is probably because of the built in transformer (to my knowledge this is the only mass produced guitar that has one).

However, the weight is balanced and the guitar feels very natural to me. Everything is at the right place, the ergonomy is superb. The neck is quick, the frets are good and I like that the guitar has a relatively big, but narrow body, which feels good.

The paintwork is flawless and I really like the shape of the head stock.

The pickups sound amazing. I use it with a Marshall Code amp, which makes a versatile setup. I can dial any amp model, they sound great from Bluesbreaker to DSL.

The passive boost delivers, one pull and your solo pops out in the mix. The sustain is long, too. If you can afford it buy the standard model over the element, it has enough incremental additions to justify the price difference. You can actually hear the difference between the two. However I struggled to hear the difference between the standard and the pro, but the pro is not available in left handed anyway.

So if you want a solidly built, sexy looking guitar that does a wide variety of tones well, try this one.
