NT1-A Matched Pair : My Goto Recording Mic
I've made a series of CDs and hundreds of hours of recordings for the National Archives over the past four years using one or both of these super mics. I record mostly solo acoustic players and singers, sometimes pairs or trios, and rarely four or more. The instruments are Button Accordian, Fiddle, Wooden Flute, Whistle, Uilleann Pipes, Tenor Banjo, Piano and Acoustic Guitar.
If you check internet reviews you will find lots of negatives but in practice I need clear, natural, and realistic reproduction of the music as played - and the Rode NT1A Pair deliver time and again. I also have access to advise and help from top class Sound Engineers in Ireland and they confirm my view that the NT1A is one of the best mics for what I do.
I sometimes use professional studios and have access to top end mics (some cost 10x NT1As) and these mics can produce a better recording.... but ... even the Recording Engineers accept the difference for most listeners is marginal enough.
