Beta 91A : Nice flounder

I bought this microphone both for in ear monitoring (live as well as in rehearsals) and for recording the bass drum.

For monitoring I place the microphone in front of the drum set, the little switch on its backside set to linear. The result is a powerful bassdrum sound in front of everything else of the drum set. The guitars and bass are still hearable though - perfect for me.

Recording is even easier: flip the backside switch to mid-scoop, put the microphone into the bassdrum and you are set.

The big advantage over other non-boundary microphones in either situation is that the Shure Beta 91A does not require any microphone stand. Due to it's heavy build it even takes a guitarist stepping onto it (what, in fact, happens quite often).
