Pro MPA II : Upgrade the tubes!
This is a great mic-preamp for the money, however, upgrade your tubes and it will make a huge difference. This unit comes with quite cheap unbranded Chinese tubes, I swapped them out for some Telefunken 12ax7 / Ecc83s for under 100EUR and it was well worth it. The unit itself is built well and easy to use. Low cut filter and variable impedence are nice features, my only criticism is that the VU meters are not the best looking things, but it makes no difference to the sound, they clearly show when you're recording too hot and it sounds fantastic.
