SansAmp Fly Rig RK5 V2 : Nice sound, but headphone is a big no-no
I already had the Flyrig 5 v2, and have played many gigs with it with great results. Also my go-to practice tool at home is this into a small solid state combo set clean. I wanted to try this variety of the Flyrig. Set up using the same elements as before, I got some nice sounds. Not exactly better than the other model, just different. Nice sansamp circuit, nice distortion (wasn't a big fan of the fuzz sound but that's just me, nice boost but not a fan of the comp setting). Liked the delay and reverb, rotary again was not really something I could see/hear myself use... But now my main problem; I had bought this for silent practice, since the description says it has a switchable headphone amp. (my other unit does not have this) Tried this and almost blew my head off! Everything bypassed and loud as hell! I tried to compensate by engaging the sansamp circuit at very low volume, but that sounded nowhere near what I heard the unit do through my amp. Adding the drive circuit onto that sounded even worse. All in all, nice unit, great build quality like my other unit. But sadly the one purpose I wanted to use this for is really not doable. Better to return this and keep at it with my other model + amp. I can always (try to) turn that amp down a bit when practicing...
