Modwave : Good Addition to the Series

This is another excellent digital synthesiser from Korg. It has the same form factor as the Opsix and Wavestate which is not exactly to my liking but it helps keep the costs down I guess.

All of theses machines would be improved with a keyboard with aftertouch.

Of the three machines, the modwave has the best and easiest user interface to get to grips with for users with any knowledge of howVCO/DCO/VCA/VCF subtractive synths work. Strangely, Korg provide a really good comprehensive PC/Mac Editor for this machine too - not that im complaining but in reality the Opsix and the Wavestate are far more complex and in far greater need of a similar facility. With the modwave, you could easily get by without it.

Soundwise, its actually a bit thinner and "digital" sounding than the other two machines. I find it harder to get warm sounds out of it but its good at what it does. Its quite easy to modify the presets and create new sounds and modulations of your own.

The kaoss physics control is a really interesting addition that offers something different.
