AKG D5 S Reviews
Warm full sound
This is my personal mic and my favorite to use live on my own voice. (bariton) Like with all mics you need to test it on the voice. What works for me may not work for someone else.
The quality is really good. The switch is handy but not suited for people who are not used to using a mic. In that case better use a mic without a switch to prevent accidentally switching it of (or on when you don't want it to be on)
The only downside of this mic is the handling noise. This mic is only suited to use in a mic stand!
Used a Shure SM58 for years, this is equally as good
Both the SM58 and D5 S are very similar. They require high gain but this is desirable where you don't want the environment picked up. I wouldn't recommend for streamers or the likes who want to be sat away from the mic while speaking
Good choise
Good choice for rehearsals, concerts. For everyday use.
Great working mic
AKG have obviously put this out as their version of the “SM”. SM is a great mic and an industry standard but I think this AKG gives it a run for its money.
Good looking, robust, on-off switch and sounds excellent.
I use it as a keyboard player doing backing vocals so the on/off switch is handy for when I’m not contributing vocally and prevents unwanted sounds being picked up.
All in all, great value for money
AKG D5 S
I have used this microphone for quite some time now and I have to say it is performing as it was specified. Clear sound. I recommend it.
Solid
Solid mic, one of my best mics. Use it very often when i lead worship at my Church! Solid made and looks nice, sound is decent for my voice. I'm not a professional singer, so can't tell a lot more about the specs but like the sound and i'm happy with the AKG's mics, have few of them and so far so good! Reccomend
Great sound and visually very good looking Mic
Sound clarity was perfect with no distortion even when shouting down the Mic. Nice to hold and not to heavy. We have used a lot of AKG products and would recommend their build quality and design.
Perfect quality
Perfect build quality, sturdy.
great quality for the mney
Had this a couple of years now, this is a good vocal mic for the money.
Gives a faithful reproduction of with live vocals and very little problems with feedback despite sitting over a monitor frequently.
The switch is clearly useful as an alternative to desk muting, and as a traditional band performing tunes for dancing too it is very handy to switch it off to get rid of background noise and just turning it back on when singing. Still works well even after a couple of drops!
Definitely recommended.
Better than the SM-58
A great vocal mic that suits a higher voice. The bass response from these mics is quite high which can enrich a higher voice. I wouldn't advise getting one if your voice is already quite bassy.
From my experience the cardioid pattern is a bit tighter than the SM-58 which means you will need to be facing directly into the mic more than an SM-58. This reduces the chances of feedback on a properly set up stage. However if you move out of the cardioid pattern your voice will lose volume & clarity quicker than you would with other mics with a larger cardioid pattern.
I have 2 of these mics and use them every weekend. They have never let me down. Have used them for recording vocals, guitars and snare with nice results as well.
A great price for a great mic.
Microfoon AKG D-5-S
These are one of the best buys when you are looking for a good microfoon.
I have 3 mics of AKG in the band and everybody is very happy with them.
The sound and the price of these microfoon is good and even better than the SM58.
So i can only say that i am very happy with this buy.
Worth every penny
This mic is a gem. It's cheap, it's pure quality, definitely beats the classic SM57 for me, which says a lot. AKG knows how to build microphones and this is the proof.
It's light, comes with case and clip - and the shape is really nice. It's a handsome fellow!
Nice Mice
Very honest performance for the price.
A proper vocal mic
This a good additional vocal mic to your arsenal of vocal mics, I think it's a good investment to have a bit clearer and different sound in addition to some shures standard mics.
AKG D 5 S
Bought for our vocalist who had a very guttural voice and we sometimes cant hear the treble ..........works a treat but it can detect our monitors from the side so best place them directly in front of this mike.
AKG D5 review
The AKG D-5 is rugged and weighty and will survive being dropped on the floor. The sound is rich and vibrant and has a roundness that surpasses that of many other mics in its price bracket. It works equally well for male or female voices and sits comfortably in the hand without any audible sound of it being held during live gigs.
The on-off switch seems to be a little too easy to flick off - but that said almost every novice singer I've ever worked with has somehow managed to switch themselves off with almost any mic that has a switch - so it might not be the switch's fault!
In comparison one might also look to buy the Shure SM58 and for good reason, because the SM58 is a great industry standard live vocal mic - but get the AKG D-5 instead as it's just simply better.
My secret weapon
I bought this D5s, as I needed a mic that would sound warm when singing through it, (quite low male vocal) and also take my Harmonica blowing up some blues (on a neck rack). I had to get a foam windshield to cope with the extra air flow from the Harp, but when I did, this mic is now my favourite live mic ever and has become my secret weapon. Since changing to AKG I have had several after show comments on how good my vocals were; Trust me, I never had this before... Thanks AKG; and now I'm saving up for the D7s.
