After one year with Linnstrument, I can honestly say that it has changed the way I approach music in a good way. Haven't been blessed with the talent/patience to learn neither piano nor guitar, I'm finally able to 'understand' music theory and play some tunes, all thanks to the isomorphic layout of Linnstrument. On top of that, it's a sound designers dream to be able to program patches for such expressive instrument. You can cover wide range of sonic expression with minimal finger movements/gestures and some clever parameter mapping that it really gets into the acoustic instruments territory. New features are being added constantly with every firmware update. Roger Linn has individual approach to every his customer which is something you don't see often these days. The hardware is...
Hornberg Research hb1 Midi Breath Station

I purchased the hb1 some months ago and have had time to get to know this excellent piece of kit a bit better. First off the build quality of this unit far exceeds all expectations, one can tell immediately that the designer and manufacturer really do care about their product. This care and attention does not stop there, I had occasion to contact a member of the team who Skyped me back and gave me a one to one tutorial on the features and possible combinations, yes you can combine presets to interact within the same patch, it used to be two presets, I believe it is now four. Like any new instrument and this is an instrument, there is a learning curve, you put some effort into the technique and one is rewarded with expression not achievable with pedals and mod wheels. Fantastic! Dave Lawson.
Airturn BT500S-2

Pairs super easy with my iPad and connects quickly without losing connection. I use it to turn the pages on the UnRealBook App. It is perfect. Easy to use and you can’t accidentally double click and turn too many pages. Much better than any other blue tooth page turner I have had. After charging the unit, I unplugged it and played easily for an hour. It says it can keep going for 200 hours, only time will tell, but you can also use it plugged in, so battery life is not an issue. I am very pleased with the pedal. The chrome buttons to move forward or back give a positive click (feel , it’s not noisy). This is the perfect solution.
Nektar Panorama P1

I have been looking for something like this for a very long time! -As a long time Cubase user I have been frustrated by the lack of feel when adjusting EQ, VSTis etc. Theres something not as instant or usable as twiddling knobs - The P1 handles this in a very elegant fashion. EQ is now 'twidlleable' to your hearts content and is so much easier to adjust in realtime, The VSTis, especially the synths are far more versatile than their small feature set would indicate when you can tweak and hear the effect straight away. The bright sharp colour screen is very useful and provides excellent feedback on the state of the active controls. Having the illuminated, dedicated transport buttons is great and almost worth the price on its own! As a Reason user this device also transforms some of...
ESI Xjam

I use it in Cubase mainly as midi remote controller for shortcuts and DAW controls. It's very compact, well build and the response is great. The only drawback for this use is that pads doesn't light up for on/off functions, and you have to remember the assignments. The knobs are tight but turn smooth. It is great that it's powered from the usb and it works very stable. As a drum pad is just great. The editing software is very good, flexible and easy to use. The only complain is that you can't select all pads to edit them all at ones so you have to go one by one.

It's an isomorphic keyboard with a customisable row offset (I prefer 6 semitones over the default string-instrument 5, faster to get used to after a piano keyboard) Very good vertical and horizontal precision and velocity sensitivity, pressure sensitivity is good Actuation is instant, the "pads" do not move Very sturdy With a tiny bit of midi routing and copying, can be used with full polyphonic expression with any synth The lights can be changed with CC or you can change the firmware yourself (it's open source) Very useful pitch quantisation modes inbuilt or you can play "fretless" Has a fancy step sequencer inbuilt Well cushioned carry bag with detachable shoulder strap included Comes with Bitwig 8-track after registration. Cons: It's expensive; only 3 notes in a...
Presonus Atom

I purchased the Atom to work with my Studio One 4 Pro DAW software and really like the workflow and versatile pads. The Atom has easily assignable pads for various sound sets. The pads are perfectly responsive to my choice of midi plugins. There are several banks as well. One down side is that the Atom does not have a power switch and remains on as long as the PC is on. It doesn't cause any issues or use much energy. Hopefully, there is a fix coming from Presonus. However, to avoid connecting and disconnecting the Atom and taking a chance and having a loose USB input, I just shout down my PC at night. You could use a switchable USB Hub to solve this issues as well. I might do that in the future. Never-the-less, I really like this controller and would recommend it to anyone looking for...
Slate Audio Raven MTi 2

First off, it took me a while to get the raven mti2 properly connected and running with my Mac desktop. I had a lot of bugs to deal with, and even had to resort to slate for some tech support, and which they delivered fast and to the point. So, A++ to slate support. The raven and mixing on the raven is a joy. I use Logic Pro X and its a perfect sync. If you are a plug-in tweeker, this is for you. If you use a lot of automation, this is for you. Its lighting fast and responsive. Gestures is a pleasure on its own, and makes using the raven only that much more easier. The large touch screen is a pleasure to work on, easy and flawless. In fact the bonus is: even if you aren't running daw and raven, the mti2 literally turns your Mac into a full functioning touch screen tablet (27 inches). My...
Korg nanoPAD 2 black

I bought it for drum track programming in my DAW. Unfortunately shortly afterwards I got an electronic drum kit so I don't use it for that task anymore. It is good for triggering loops in Matrix View in Sonar or for controlling various switches in my DAW, eg. playback control or track switching. It would be nice to have additional midi out port for use with other MIDI hardware without need for a computer on. I really like bundled software. AAS electric pianos and acoustic guitars are high quality software instruments and each of them sells separately for €99 each. That makes every controller in nano series a real bargain!

Pros: - Small, compact and lightweight - Good build quality, good feeling pads and very sensitive. - Polyphonic aftertouch - Infinitely rotating knobs (makes it like a console 1 for plugins) - You can play keys and it feels okay - You can change the layout of the keys and select which specific octaves you want to see (if you want the first key to start on G or B or E, that's possible) - Built-in arpeggiator - Big touch strip, you can do some tricks with it - Extensive transport controls using the knobs - Bright LEDs - Sequencer function for Studio One - Integrates really well with Studio One - Includes Studio One Artist, loops and tons of plugins. - Black on white looks so cool Cons: - No sustain pedal jack (you can press and hold A as sustain) - Needs some getting used to because of...
