Audient iD44 Reviews
Works like I wanted
great product, does everything that i need, no issues, and i've used it for a couple of months now.
Good choise for recording
I had some bugs with configuring this device, but in mostly cases - perfect choise
Excellent quality
Great device, does everything it should, excellent sound quality, easy installation and use, been using it for over a year and no issues at all
Perfect sound quality sound! I was impressed from the first listening!! I use it for music productions, mixing, mastering and sound designs. It's easy and effective! Never had an issue in one year of use.
I have been using this interface in my studio for a while now. I am very pleased with it, the preamps are very transparent and provide a good amount of gain.
Drivers for windows are rock solid. I use it with Studio One 5, and most of the times i'm tracking vocals while monitoring through the software. I'm able to get very low latencies with great stability.
Every control for the preamps is hardware: knob for gain, switches for phantom, hi-pass. This might seem less important, but for me it is very handy when tracking! The first few takes I keep reaching the gain knob with my hand to adjust it to the performance.
This unit is incredible. Heavy sturdy, Sound quality in insane. It is now the master control of the studio.
If only i had know before I would've got it earlier!!! I was i living without this...
Perfect !
Very capable interface, the sound quality is outstanding, coming from a behringer umc 404hd it's day and night. The listening experience is so much clearer and detailed, even the stereo image seems wider. The preamps are clean, lots of gain, very low noise floor.
Downsides are :
-it's quite a big interface, not so easy to take on the road although the construction is solid so not impossible.
-no midi inputs/outputs
-only go to 96khz (but who cares ?? All my projects are in 44.1 and no complaints)
Overall a great product, good value, totally recommend it !
Best interface under 1000E!
Small, rigid, with excellent sound. Everything you need in your home studio - high quality DIs, transparent mic preamps, good volume controller, 2 headphone preamps and more channels through ADAT! win win
Amazing
Amazing feeling when you get it, the 2 heaphone outputs and easy button layout are make it amazing to work with it. However the input gain is not as linear as I thought it would be, even tho there is almost none noise floor when you crank it
the only thing that I dont like is the finish, finger print magnet in the black part
Solid interface - worth it
I upgraded from a Saffire Pro 40. The difference is like day and night. The monitoring on the iD44 is top-notch. It's as if I bought new monitors, honestly. I would highly recommend this interface for working ITB.
The ADAT connectivity also works flawlessly, so no issues there. You would definitely need to expand using ADAT if you want to use outboard gear, because there are not enough ins and outs.
The plug-ins are a bit 'eh', that's the only 'flaw' the product has, really. The hardware is superb, but the plug-ins you get from Audient are not that great.
Pro's:
Amazing pre-amps
Amazing monitoring
comes with USB C to USB C or USB A, so connectivity is nice
Good connectivity
Cons
Plug-ins that come with it aren't that great
You will definitely need to expand it if you use it with outboard gear
Each level is small
Compared to the Apollo Two or AudioFuse, the HA and headphone amplifier are less powerful, and the rated output is lower, so you may have trouble adjusting and calibrating the level depending on the speakers and meters you connect.
I couldn't use the DAW THRU function to calibrate my VU meter(Hayakumo Forma) and I had to use one CUE.
The sound quality is high resolution and low density, but you can see the sound field far away.
It is precious that it has an insert terminal among desktop type products!
Good but could be better
Let me start by saying that this is a great interface. Clean and professional sound. There is no jitter, if you're reamping a guitar amp for example, you can literally record the same thing twice and get 100% the same signal.
It drives speakers and headphones well, very detailed and flat sound when monitoring.
That being said, some things about it bother me.
The guitar DI is too bright. This isn't a problem when using virtual amp sims. But when reamping the sound just isn't accurate. The DI sounds great with bass guitar though.
Secondly, the preamps are also bright. In a hipstery, airy sort of way. Think Ed Sheeran.
While the sound is smooth and good for acoustic stuff, as soon as you need a fat rock sound, the interface just can't do it. All mics sound spacious and airy even when close-miking.
So while I like this interface, I don't love it because the tone doesn't always suit the song.
Nothing can touch it at this price!
I use it on Windows 10 PC with i7 processor and 8GB RAM. My DAW is Reaper.
The driver is rock-solid. I have another interface installed (old Focusrite Saffire Pro 40) and I keep switching between the two without a single glitch. It doesn't have the lowest latency and I think that it could be better in this regard, but still it is not bad.
The sofware mixer/router that comes with it is elegant and clear.
The hardware is robust and looks very nice, but I don't like the hollow sound when you press the buttons. A minor thing though.
Soundwise it is stellar. I've been using TC Electronic BMC-2 as my monitor controller / DA converter and loved it, but iD44 DA sounds better. It has a bit wider and deeper soundstage and the upper mids are clearer with much less smear if any. Very, very impressive at this price!
The headphone output is also very clean, but I'd like to see more power. It's still sufficiently loud for most jobs.
The preamps are the clean, hi-fi Audient pres. Nothing to dislike about them. I'll actually be happy doing location recording of acoustic performances with these preamps, although I have Neve preamps in my studio.
The monitoring features are great, but it would be nice to have a stored reference level which would be recalled with a push of the big knob (the push currently has no function).
Maybe this machine hasn't reached its full potential, yet, but it's already really good.
High quality and well equipped audio interface
I returned the new SSL 2+ interface which was high quality and very nice, but I realised I really needed 4 physical audio inputs. So the ID44 has that and much more. It has high quality 4 audio inputs with very high quality and clean preamps, but it also has an additional 20 digital channels on digital input and output. This is an awesome and futureproof card if my ambitions should extend. It has two independent headphone output with own volume pots, which is also something I needed for when I am recording with my wife. So I am running a pair of microphones into the first two channels, one of them is a condenser, so I am really happy the card has independent phantom power per each channel, and the other two channels I am running the output of my Octatrack (synths and loops)... Very high-quality product, high-quality audio, conversion etc. Also, the mixer app which comes with it is very nice, simple yet powerful. I am satisfied with this product.
NICE
The delivery to Korea was slow.
But it came unscathed and the sound was satisfied.
Audient ID44
Nice sounding preamps, pretty good conversion, but, as all Audient products it gets hot. I don't know why Audient cuts corners like that!? Other than that it has insert points witch are extremely useful and pretty good drivers. no glitches in win 10 pro with usb C. I use it as a mobile recording interface.
Not there Yet
I ordered one of these to replace my Steinberg UR44.
Sound quality is excellent for normal playback. I record at 96Khz and 1048 buffer. My DAW of Choice is Presonus Studio 4 Pro. At first I got a lot of clips & pops with this interface. I had to re-install drivers / switched between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 inputs. Now running into USB C input. Steinberg UR44 runs much smoother. The mixer interface is also much better with my old steinberg. At least they include some DSP mixer effects like compression and reverb. I must admit the pre-amps are quite clean and smooth sounding. If I didn't have to pay all the courier cost to send it back I would have. I will do a follow up in 30 days.
I LOVE IT
I purchased an M-Audio previously in 2017 as it was one of the first to come out with usb-c, I quickly grew to hate it. It sounded so digital, awfully noisy volume knob, constant crackling and popping noises. The Audient was a MASSIVE improvement, I tested all the previous sounds and tried to abuse all of the knobs and this thing is a tank, also it sounds so warmly analog it's incredible. If there is one thing I would improve on it is just be having visible meters for each input, you can see it on the software but I like having lights on my interface. Also, I don't like that the volume knob infinitely rotates, but those are personal preferences and not flaws by any means. Amazing device.
Simply GREAT!
Great SOUND, great build, great price!
THIS THING IS A BEAST!!!!
After waiting 4 months, for my ID44, I have to say, it was definitely worth the wait. This thing is the best sounding audio interface I?ve ever heard. It sounds like a mixing console. Probably because they used the same pre-amps, and converters they use in the huge mixing consoles. And, it has tons of features, more features than any other audio interface, and is expandable to 20 channels IN, 24 channels out. The ID44 has literally no competition in this price range, or even in the 2000¤ price range. The ID44 is in a class by itself. Absolutely amazing audio interface. Great work Audient. :)
