Great kick mic

This is the most satisfying kick mic I've used so far. Sounds full and punchy, recording to 1/2" tape.

Great sounding mic, but seemingly fragile :(

I love this microphone. It feels like a serious bit of gear and the mic clip that's included is fantastic and makes it easy to position. However I (well technically the drummer I was micing up) managed to destroy the mic with SPL. I messaged audix and they repaired the mic but I am much more careful with my placement to make sure it's not too close to the head of the drum (either inside or outside the whole a little)

Great for solid rock/metal kick sound

I'm currently using this in combination with the Shure Beta91a, and these two combined produce a massively heavy sound for me both live and in studio. Not overly clicky but with good attack and picks up the bottom end very well. I am considering getting a second one to put on my 16" floor tom.

really great sound tested with couple base drums and cajons. I am very impressed with cajon sound and recommend for cajon players as part of dual mic set up for live and studio

Super good kick and Bass mic.

Really solid and small sized mic. Perfect for recording a drum kick. It work also well with bass cabinets.

Still have to try it with a guitar cabinet ( would like to try it with super low tunes) but i think that is a really good mic.

Best kick drum mic for rock.

Title says it all: simply the best kick drum mick available for rock/metal/punk/grunge/indierock and so on. Sounds good with almost no eq (a +5 dB boost between 3k and 6k helps with metal and extreme genres), and much better than the other usual suspects: 112's, 52's, 902's... It's a very specific kick mick though (excellent on bass amps also), so I wouldn't recommend it for other genres like blues or jazz

Superb Kick Drum Microphone

Previous to buying this microphone I was using the AKG D112 (which unfortunately broke)..... So I thought I'd try something different - and very glad I did.

Straight out of the box and without any EQ at all it sounds pretty good (both inside and outside the bass drum) - very punchy.

Even when (unbeknownst to me) the mic was pointing sideways - inside the kick drum (due to a loose mic holder) it still sounded rather good!

I can't think of any cons so far - All in all a very good purchase.

One of the best mics for kick and bass

Sounds deep and clear with a fat punch. The mid-scoop is more pronounced than the AKG D112, but that is very functional for kick and bass. With the D112 I always had the impression that the sound is more 'dirty' (maybe good for other people) and I needed extra EQ to get the sound I want. The D6 gives me almost perfect results without extra EQ.

The frequency response of this mic makes it my go to for metal-rock kickdrum.

Big low end and attack at around 5kHz.

Also it feels indestructible.

I chose to buy Audix D6 among few options in the same price range an I am very pleased. I use it for the kick in drums, for percussion instruments like kajon, and as well as for bass amp, I really like its tone. It's a great choice for both stage and studio

best mic for kick drum

After trying several different kick drum mics I heard about Audix mics and after reading the reviews ordered the D6. It just sounded great from the off with very little EQ needed at all to get a great kick sound. works well either on a boom (comes with its own adaptor clip) or laid inside the drum on a pillow, its my go-to mic of choice for bass drum.

Fantastic Kick mic

Purchased one of these after hearing them being used with lots of touring artists coming through a local venue where I work.

On it's own it provides an excellent deep sound to kick drums, but paired with a Shure Beta91A, it creates the perfect kick sound in a live environment. I use it for almost every gig I'm at now!

I've also used it on bass cabs as well and it sounds great on those too!

Microphone for a modern sound

I use the Audix D6 for recording the kick drum and the floor tom and the results are great. I think this microphone sounds best on modern, edgy kick drums as it has a scooped mid-range, crisp highs and a focused low-end. On a floor tom this mic sounds huge - you can't go wrong with this mic on toms. If you are looking for a modern rock/metal sound then this microphone is definitely what you need.

Audix D6 ... What more can you say ?

Incredible mic. Amazingly well built and high quality. So far i've used it both for recording bass and drum kick. Both sounded spectacular. The kick had really nice punchy sound and as for the bass, I paired it with the DI signal and it's a great tone. Looking forward to more recording sessions with this beast.

Great MIC

This mic is great, the reason I got this mic was that you dont need an engineer to tweek it at all. Its sounds great just on its own, by far the best drum mic i have ever bought. Ticks all the boxes. its had a couple of falls also and no difference at all, well made good quality.

Easy and brilliant for simple kick drum success

Making no pretences to be an all-rounder, the D6 is clearly aimed at big fat kick drum sounds. It's a large-diaphragm mic with anything but flat response, scooping out the boxier low mids whilst accentuating the deep lows and giving some click near the top. It makes for a supremely efficient live tool given that the natural frequency response represents what many engineers will go for anyway. Couple this with good build quality, great reliability (so far anyway) and a reasonable price tag, it's something I would recommend for any small/mid live venue that takes pride in it's sound whilst also working on tight turnaround times. Travelling engineers will generally approve too.

sub kick not needed

If you buy this one, you probably wouldn't need any sub kick in your mix (trigger or additional mic). Probably one of the best kick drums mics in the world at the moment.

Excellent microphone for basses and kicks mainly.

I purchased this item for completing my setup. It is a excellent microphone for a reasonable price which allow to record, mainly, sound of basses and kick and, definitely, any sound that comes with a hard attack. The built for this microphone is excellent, is a robust aluminium enclosure with the XLR connector at the bottom. It is, without doubt an excellent purchase for this price.

great sounding kick mic

This mic is very well built. You pick it up and it just feels like a quality piece of equipment. Physically it's quite small compared to more traditional kick drum mics. One thing to think about is that the clip attaches on the narrow shoulder of the XLR connector. This means all of the weight is in front of the clip and therefore the mic can be a bit front heavy on a mic stand. You need to make sure the clamp on the stand is well done up or they can creep in to the drum.

Sound quality is excellent. It has a specific voicing that means very little EQ is required to get a nice punchy kick sound. It isn't to everyone's taste though so listen to some sample audio before you buy.
