Behringer Crave 5-stars Reviews
Fat sounding analog beast
This synthesizer sounds very nice, I use it for wide palette of sounds. The filter very musical.
Pros: sound, build quality, semi-modular options, arpeggiator
Minus: strange sync of arpeggiator quantization with DAW, not clear manual
For this price it is hard to beat Crave, if you need to bring some analog vibe to your mixes it is go to synth. Hope in future firmware update the sync issue. will be fixed.
Great Synth
Sounds really nice and the patch bay is just hours of fun.
Cool sound and very usable arragement of knobs
I use this live and in studio.
All options are very easy to find, so it's really nice to play with Crave. It's very compact in the same time.
Sound is warm and have this "analog feeling". Filter is agressive, it was a nice suprise.
Only one thing - the painting is delicate, too delicate for hardware.
One of the best starting synth
Great for learning synthesis and patching. Can serve as a solid start for adding more modular/semi-modular instruments, which I think is it?s real strength. Buttons are very clicky, not as nice as the Mother 32, but otherwise very nice instrument.
No complains
Behringer did an outstanding value instrument with this one!
With the sound and option on this semi-modular, there is nothing that comes close. It's easily comparable to the moog mother 32, which is about 4 times the price. You go do the math! :D
ok beginner synth
It is a nice little synth, however it does bug from time to time. It has a 16th ghost note on some patterns wich can get annoyng, so i have decide to try and use it as an augmentation to my monologue, almost liek a third oscilator, if you will.It is a good introduction to modular, patching is fun on it.seems built sturdy. but again, it bugs from time to time, even after firmware update.
For that less money , you will get a very semi-modular sinth , look great , souns perfect , so I'll give 5 stars !
Great synth unit at a cheap price !
Powerful sounds, very good Vcf , sequencer and controls in general.
Quality / price ratio almost unbeatable in my opinion.
Great single oscillator synth
Great sound, huge modulation possibilities, and a silly price. Sensational value for money.
If there is a downside it is that it will not fit in a Eurorack Case - so I built my own :)
Crazy amount of synth for the money
I bought this synth as my first analogue synth. The plan is to use it both for recording, and eventually put together a live setup, and the fact that it is semi modular and has a great sequencer makes it the perfect start for this. While it only has one oscillator, this is still a very capable synth. The patch points makes it very flexible (especially for use together with future gear), and the sequencer makes it possible to do some very interesting bass lines.
Pros:
Cheap
Solid Build
Easy to incorporate with future gear
Nice and Beefy sound
Includes patch cables
Cons:
Only one oscillator (with two waveforms)
No release on the envelope
only 1/8 jack output
WOW
the sound is amazing, very very fitting for 303 style rave leads and basses as well as getting this unique somewhat moogish oberheimish sound. Truly a great instrument for beginner to expert, behringer is making big moves with this
Amazing backpack synth!
A brilliant thing to carry around, genuinely amazingly warm and powerful sound for such a cheap little thing. Well built too, takes daily abuse of being carried around very well. Patch bay turns it into a suitable heart for any Eurorack system. But it's own sound just cuts through mixes too. Everything from bass drone to acid squelch!
So nice I bought I twice!
Behringer is the new synth king
Huge value
Huge value, and this thing just sounds so good. A lot of it has to do with the incredibly well copied ladder filter design. There's just something magical about a ladder filter.
Anyways, the patch points got me a bit excited about eurorack. Too bad the unit doesn't actually fit in one.
The only reason I'm only giving 3 stars in handling, is because I honestly am not a fan of the sequencer. It's not obvious enough which mode you're in and I just can't into a groove with it.
But I have other sequencers so that's not a real problem for me.
Great unit - everybody should have one.
Awesome sound
Amazing sounds, can spend hours on this synth making great sounds from ambient to deep bass and leads. I love it.
May need a second unit i think !!
Buy it.....at this price its a steal. Thanks Behringer.
Only gripe is one of the feet are not level so it wobbles on a flat surface - solved that by putting a .46 guitar plectrum under the foot. Solid now.
Value for money
An excellent semi-modular synth for those who want to take their first steps into modular synth world.
incredible little synth
It was too good not to get, its so inexpensive but the sounds it can produce are incredible. The more I play it the more i learn how to make the most out of its one VCA and how to hack two or three VCAs from it. Its incredible in all aspects and I love it dearly and only had it a few weeks haha. Behringer has come a long way and I am delighted to see it. Finally a way to get in to synthesis that wont cost someone the shirt off their back.
excellent first synth
I bought the Crave as my first ever hardware synth. I had no previous experience using an analog synthesizer and I think the Crave is an excellent place to get started. For beginners like me, I definitely recommend watching a youtube tutorial or two to understand what all the knobs are for and to get introduced to modular synthesis.
The sonic range you can get from this small machine is near endless, especially with the added patchbay. I have coupled the Crave with my tc electronic Echobrain which also works together beautifully and expands the options even further
Build quality seems very solid so far, the knobs have a nice weight to them.
The sequencer is also a nice feature, pretty straight forward to program. My main annoyance is that saving and recalling patterns (you can save up to 64 patterns) from the pattern bank is not the easiest. Apart from that I don't have any complaints, overall it's a very well-built and a very fun instrument at a fair price.
Great synth with small cons
Bang for the buck
Pros
-Sound
-Build Quality
-Really cheap introduction to modular world
Cons
-Midi interface doesn't communicate with SysEx devices
-Poor manual
Toe dipping winner
I bought this as an introduction to synthesizers (semi modular) and am very content. Looks, feels and sounds extremely nice for the price tag. I think it's quite versatile aswell and fun to play with. :)
