Behringer DI20 Reviews
behringer D120 DI Box X2
I've been hauling this little baby around to gigs now for two or three years and it's never left me down . You do have to check sometimes to make sure all the switches are set to the right setting to get your sound right . Having the two channels is very handy . I keep mine in a little plastic box to prevent it from getting knocked about during transport and it also keeps the dust out of it . Overall I'm very happy with it . T
DI BOX
I have used these for years and have never had a problem with one. Handles bass guitar or keys with ease. Quiet when used for recording and good for live work. Solidly built to withstand the idiots who tread on them! A balanced line out, as well as XLR would be a useful addition.
Really impressed with this little unit
I can now plug two instruments into one DI box! really cool. The sound is great and I'll be buying more of these when we need another DI box.
Behringer D120 DI
Great product which provides a hand solution to basic DI needs.
Sound quality is excellent, clean and faithful.
The twin DI capability is very handy too.
cheap, does the job for us
We use this to get decent signals from our three basses ( one bass player, sadly only able to play one at a time ) They work very well for us. We very much like the sound that we get. Only used on live gigs - maybe in a studio there is a reason to spend much more money.
Gripes - nothing material - battery compartment is fiddly and a tight fit, switches are not great - too easy to get moved from position A to position B so we try and put them somewhere where they will not get fiddled with, stood on etc.
Set up is that the basses plug in to the DI boxes, the DI Boxes feed a little onstage mixer which the bass player controls and then we take a feed out of the on stage mixer to the main mixer which our sound engineer controls. Works fine.
I am aware of nothing in remotely the same price bracket that takes two signals. We have not used the product to split a signal other than to check it works.
Behringer DI20 Stereo Direct box field report
The Behringer DI20 is an (extremely) inexpensive DI solution. I have much more expensive DIs (BSS AR 116, Jensen-based Mercenary Audio, and ALTEC-based passives) and, I must say, the DI20 compares favorably considering the price.
This DI was purchased as I needed a DI with a very high (several MegaOhms) input impedance. The BSS have this type of impedance but I did not have enough channels of these for the project. Interestingly, the DI20 tech spec sheet on the Behringer site offers no clue as to the input impedance, however, armed with the knowledge that the DI20 is an active, op-amp buffered input - i took the chance that the impedance would be high, as ineed it turned out to be. The DIs were being used as high impedance buffers for piezo contact microphones, and the provision of an XLR 600 ohm balanced output meant that convenient interface with a mixer was possible. They worked extremely well for this purpose and no low-frequency roll-off effects were apparent with the piezos, so the input impedance matches that of the BSS DIs.
To summarize, the DIs performed admirably well for the project at hand, and have remained in my production case for live shows and recording. The build quality is a little delicate - but this is to be expected given the low price. This DI has a clear open sound, a little clinical as there is no 'iron' as with the BSS. There are a number of flexible switching options and it's stereo - so you get 2 DIs in one. It can be powered remotely by phantom 48 Volt, or via an onboard 9 Volt battery, so it's extremely flexible.
Cheap and easy
Comes with everything you'd expect from a small DI box;
- Ground lift (handy for killing buzz's)
- Signal attention (good for just taking a few dBs off a very loud input)
- Phantom Powered or 9V (Although I'd always power it with Phantom Power).
Plus it's a two channel DI box! Really handy to have 2 DI's in such a small box. It's made out of metal, and feels fairly tough.
Couple of handy little extra features;
9V/Phantom Power LED indicator.
Link switch, just in case you want to merge two signals instead of DI'ing them separately.
Own a handful of them, and none have failed.
Great product for the price!
A cheap DI but can be noisy
The DI works well and it can run from phantom power rather than eating batteries but it does have a tendency to be a bit hissy.
With DI boxes, you get what you pay for and you'll not find a cheaper stereo DI on the market so if you can live with a little hiss (not great in theatres) you'll be fine with this.
Neat little problem solver
I bought one of these with my PA mixer as a way of easily hooking up guitars on stage. The sound is excellent, construction is high quality, and the phantom power makes life easy.
A good unit for the money
I have used these DI boxes for many years now and have never had an issue with them. Being able to use them for 2 inputs has been useful when taking stereo signals like keyboards. Sound quality has always been good from them and they have never broken down during a gig. Good build quality and attenuation gives good control over line levels. a solid product.
