Behringer Model D Reviews
Great Boog
Behringer providing a great cheap alternative to a classic synth that's no longer available and also very expensive. For under €300 every producer or synth collector needs one of these in their collection. Zero issues, build quality is great. Has served me well for pads, leads, basses and textures. Grab one of these. Don't let synth purists tell you otherwise.
Great Buy For a First Analog Synth
This was highly recommended to me by 2 different teachers at my sound and music university as a great starting synth by a budget price and well, it answered my expectations.
The sound is really great and there are many sonic possibilities here, from some smooth atmospheric ambient soundscapes to acid bass and harsh noise. I really like the finishing and for someone with small hands, the knobs are quite alright. I really like what I managed to make with it so far and it is really a great synth to own if you're getting started in this world, I think if I went to a complete modular synth it would be a bit too much to grasp in the beginning and could be overwhelming.
My only problem is that sometimes the tuning is a little off, sometimes is just right, depends on how long it's working and getting hotter.
For the price, this synth is really worth it and I strongly recommend it!
High quality and authentic sounding
They've got the Moog sound nailed 100%. All the features of the original seem to be present and correct plus a few improvements - notably MIDI. Build quality is excellent. It's solid and all the pots and switches have a high quality feel to the way they work. No sign of cutting corners to engineer it down to a price. At this money it really is fantastic.
great synth, great value
I use this synth in the studio, sometimes teamed up with Neutron.
I love the sound this synth produces
It has great connectivity for modular gear
the only down side is the tuning, it does get more out of tune the more octaves you go.
there is though a trim pot inside and this helps regulate the tuning.
that said, I never used such wide octaves and never had much of a problem, still a great sounding synth
Amazing value for the price
Great option if you are looking for an affordable copy of a Moog. Also, it does not take up a lot of space which is nice for a bedroom setup.
Moment of truth
A classic minimoog comes to your home in a compact package. Behringer fulfills the dream of many musicians and fans of the classic minimug who previously could not afford to buy this instrument because of the high cost. Nothing extra. Turned on and flew into space. If you connect a delay or reverb to it, then there is a chance of flying into distant galaxies.
In addition to the classical controls, it is possible to connect the synthesizer to the computer and send notes to it from the DAW.
The sound is amazing. And given the low price compared to the original, this tool is beyond competition.
For basslines and leads, having 1 knob per function makes this synth very fun and good for beginners. No patch memory means you are forced to remember or when you are skilled at programming maybe this is a non-issue.
the sound is just wow
good sound very good song simple to take hand
A BEAST in a small package
Excellent little synth.
Sounds exaclty as advertised. It's a very capable and fun synth.
Very well built and appealing.
Only con is that I had to open it and calibrate the tuning since it was flat by nearly half a step at a 4 octave range. It was a bit of a hastle but the instructions are clear on how to get it done. Just be sure you have the necessary tools before you venture yourself into it.
I really like this synth!
One of the best value synths at this price range.
Good build quality. Nothing wobbles or rattles. It's lighter than I expected but not in a way that makes it feel flimsy. quite the opposite. It feels like a solid, but largely empty metal box....that then makes amazing sounds with very little effort.
As a synth this can do everything from bass to leads and effect sounds using the noise filter and filter cutoff in some clever ways.
Really pleased with it
Sounds amazing
Knobs are too tightly spaced, but besides that it's great, sounds like everything You want :) Beautiful! And it's seems robust.
Model D
This is a fat sounding beast.
The sound is just great. And offers a lot.
Great synth and I am very happy with it.
Little Beast
For anyone that is pondering buying one, just do it! For me, having never had the pleasure of playing an original Model D it really doesn't make a difference how close it may or not be to the original, however everything I have heard makes this out to be as close as you can get. It is very well made, sturdy and easy to use. It is so much fun and you can spend hours just fiddling and not feel like you've wasted any time at all! With three oscillators going it truly is a beast and makes some wonderful sounds. Enjoy!
A great sounding synth, built well and affordable.
Pros: good sound, build quality, affordable
Cons: it does require a bit of tuning, but Behringer explains the whole process. If you can fix an electrical switch you can also do the tuning yourself. Other then that I couldn't really find anything wrong with it.
Excellent synthesizer...Excellent sound and the USB port is sure extremely convenient
Behringer made me break an oath I made almost 18 years ago, of never going back to hardware again. I was very skeptical at first, of leaving my comfort zone, producing 100% in the box, however it really was worth it!
This thing sounds AMAZING! The sound is crisp, full and rich, plus the additions that Behringer added to the original design (the CV sockets, the high pass filter, the LFO, The Env Decay switches) are very useful, and take things to a whole new level. In fact I must say that this synth, although a clone, has its own personality - to the point that I gave it a name, almost 2 hours after I started fiddling with it :)
The cons? I'd say the power button is a bit fiddly. Also -although I have no idea how the original synth behaved- I'd like the range of the Env Decay knobs, to be a bit more exponential, so that I could fine tune short decays more precisely - It was hard f.e. to dial a steep decay for a kick.
All and all, I'm very excited with the Model D, and I think... perhaps I can break my "no hardware" rule a bit more :)
Amazing product for the price
Incredible clone of the MiniMoog. Use it for bass lines in every project. Imperceptible difference between it and the original. The form factor is smaller than original, but it's not something that bothers me. The extra patch points are a big plus.
Can't recommend enough!
Awesome replica of a classic
I'm very happy with my Behringer Model D. The sound is so full, warm, versatile and I really understand now why this design is still relevant almost 50 years after the original's introduction.
Pros:
- It's very well and solidly built, all metal with wooden (I think real wood?) side panels
- All knobs all smooth and it feels quite easy to adjust them accurately
- It sounds like a Moog
- The sound quality is amazing
- Very little noise
- The added signal inputs and outputs are a very nice bonus! It works great together with e.g. a Crave as both a sequencer and modulation source
- MIDI
- LFO in addition to 3rd oscillator
Cons:
- I tried really hard, but I can't think of any cons yet... Maybe the power lead could be a little longer?
Grew up wanting to buy an original!
these are the sounds i always wanted growing up - my plan in life was to get a job save up and then purchase a raft of vintage synths to play with well now i dont need to use my savings ;D - i have never owned an original and now i do not need to , Behringer are knocking it out the park !
Almost irresistable to not give it a try
PEople may hate behnringer as much as they like, and the work ehics of the company might be questionable, but they do deilver when it comes to the new, ever expanding, synth range.
The Model D is a very nice, well built mono synth. It sounds great and comes very close to a classic original which this was inspired by.
The synth has all expected features, and handling feels good. The knobs are a bit msall, but this is something we see commonly nowadays with the small sized devices and modular equipment.
Aside from the expected features the addition of daisy poly chaining multiple Model D's makes it also tempting to build your own analog poly synth.
It works as a desktop or eurorack device, with a minor downside being the loose bolts used to fix it in its case, instead of a full bar. Once you have dismounted it from the case to put it in a rack, you will have a struggle to mount it back with all screws in the original case.
All in all, for the price tag it has, this is an irresistable offer, that offers you the real classic power in a compact and afforable format.
I don't see why you would not give it a try.
