Great synth for the price.

After watching some A/B comparisons with the SH101, I had to go for the MS1. The sound quality of the synth is very very good, with a little noise floor.

The FM over VCF is a fantastic addition - but lacks a CV input to save you twisting the knob!

Integration with the Synthtribe app makes accessing back end features very easy.

One little issue that concerns me is how I hear a spring underneath the first A within first month of use.... The concern is that once I start to tour this instrument how long will that key last untill something goes wrong?

All in all, fantastic for the price and a great mono addition to complement my Juno 60.

perfect for what it is

I use this for basslines and acidic riffs (it sounds like 303!).

Almost 2 years now in my ownership, it still sounds great. Although plastic, it is very heavy and it feels robust.

The sound is very close to the original SH 101 (if not exactly the same) and the features that the company introduced (FM Mod, Triangle Wave, Midi I/O, Usb) transferred the instrument to today's standards.

In my opinion, the sequencer is a bit quirky to use (i sequence it form DAW) and it shoud have more steps per pattern, because 32 is very limiting

Generally, i think it is a good instrument that i am happy to look at and play with, but the time will show how well built it is.

The best of the Behringer clones

Behringer's synth clones have offered high quality sound, but sometimes leave something to be desired in terms of form factor and color variation. The MS-1 is definitely the best of the bunch, by far! It really outdoes the Roland classic in several ways. The sturdy metal base is so nice and gives it good weight, compared to the all-plastic original. The build quality is top notch. The additional features (such as FM!!) would have been mods in the day, but are neatly integrated. The Crave style sequencer, which Behringer reuses here, is somewhat confusing, but not the worst thing in the world, even if it's only 32 steps compared to the original's 64 steps, but it's not a huge deal. Do yourself a favor, throw out all those old Squarepusher records and start writing your own future classics with the MS-1!

Great for a price

Good sound quality. Great for electronic bass.

After a few months of use, some keys in the middle have a different feel than the ones that are rarely used on sides of the keyboard.

It came completely out of tune, so I had to dive into web searches and find the procedure for OSC tuning in some support PDF.

That is something that's supposed to be done in a factory.

Overall, I'm happy with it. I would recommend to anyone looking for this kind of synth.

Sounds Brilliant

So, this is allegedly based on the SH101, which I have owned in the past. This sounds to me very close if not the same to an original. The midi synching side of things seems to be a bit off, but for me personally that is not so much of an issue. I think it sounds great, it's pretty well built for something this cheap; for that price you can't really complain. No noise, no issues. Definitely worth getting if you like the 101 sound!

Sounds great, very versatile and looks amazing

Always wanted to own a 101. This is by far the closest I am going to get. Sounds amazing and has some nice extra features (love the FM feature for some crispy harsh sounds).

Also am very happy that Behringer made everything in full size, unlike the boutique roland version.

A++++

Fantastic synth

I sold my Roland Sh101 30 years ago, but I always regretted it,

the ms-1 is fantastic and to my aging ears almost an exact sound alike,

and like the Model - d and the Neutron I would highly recommended it

Wonderful clone of the classic 101!

This thing sound just right, so much more alive than the digital version from Roland.

Juke808

Average synthesizer, but if you order it, you will get MS101 instead of advertised MS1. Older batch of them with minor issues (you can check gearslutz for them). Sliders are a bit cheap and wobbly. Keys are ok.

The classic 101 sound

The classic 101 sound for a very small and decent price with very high quality build quality. I love Behringer for doing this. The filter is different than the SH-101's, and the noise level is a bit too high. But great nonetheless, I absolutely love it!
