beyerdynamic DT-880 Pro Black Edition Reviews
Revealing quality headphones
I bought these for mixing/tracking and they're very good for giving you an idea of your EQ. I've heard complaints that this model isn't kind to the low end but that's garbage, if your mix is bass-heavy you'll know about it to an uncomfortable degree. You'll get the detail you need across the range which is just what I wanted.
At this impedance (250 ohms0 they can work ok on a smartphone as well as an interface but you'll need to heavily EQ because they'll let everything through. They're very comfortable and well-made and I feel confident I'll get good mixes with them. My only wish is that they made these cables detachable.
Comfortable and balanced!
I use these for mixing and general listening.
The balanced sound makes these ideal for these functions as you're hearing the pure audio as it was intended, with no embellishments.
Very comfortable, sturdy build and balanced audio.
Recommended.
wow, the sound!
grate quality, can mix with it hours and still it fells good on my head
Very Impressed
Spent quite a while looking for new headphones to replace my HD 280's.
Went for these & found that moving from these to listening to my monitors (Adam A7-X) the mix was extremely similar. Was surprised but very happy.
Haven't experienced any fatigue either
Weöll recommended.
Neutral and natural sounding headphones
Very good headphones, the clamp force is a little bit too strong for my tastes but you can modify it: https://support.beyerdynamic.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001642854-Can-I-modify-the-headband-pressure-on-my-own-
Great headphones for the price!
I absolutely love these since switching from a typical gaming headset worth around 100~eu.
The build quality is sturdy, german quality, so it is definitely built to last you a lifetime - although some parts are still plastic, the base of the headphone is metal. Surprisingly, these are very light headphones as well.
Of course, the PRO version does come with a curled cable and has a bit of a higher clamp force on your head, so you should keep this in mind too.
Regarding the sound... these headphones definitely have their own fingerprint, and you can hear this very well if you use software like Sonarworks reference. It is by no means a bad sound, but keep this in mind, as you can even clearly see the tone of the headphones via their frequency spectrum. It has a bit of a bass cut and there are a few spikes in the mid-high region.
Other than that, this is to be expected at such a price range and you will definitely be able to differentiate many new sound details in songs and mixes when using these, compared to non-studio type headphones. I was surprised at how much I started to notice.
All in all, these will be a great and relatively cheap upgrade if you are using non-studio or non professional audio headphones. I use these for pretty much everything - gaming, watching movies, mixing, playing guitar, simply listening to music - it does it all much better than your typical gaming headphones which, to be fair, cost around the same as these.
And all this runs on my scarlett 2i4. If anyone is wondering if you need a pre-amp when running an interface - that is definitely not a must. You would need to crank the volume a bit higher, and in the long run I may just opt to try for it if that would give me more headroom in the volume control, but I can say with confidence it is not a must to enjoy these headphones.
I recommend them if you are looking for a cheap pro-audio headphone with great clarity and awesome soundstage. Cheers!
I struggle with headphones as they sit over the top of my glasses. Having used these for over a year they have proved more comfortable than i expected.
Sound quality is fantastic I make hard tekno but aslo use these in Uni where I work with all sorts of instrumentation. Mixes i do on my headphones translate well on speakers.. Would I buy them again? Yes :-)
Awesome set of headphones
The audio is amazing, like i was expecting.
Really solid.
Build quality is OK, but not the best. My right cup adjustment is more loose than the left cup and i need to adjust it every time when i put them on my head because the clamping force is moving my right cup up when i leave them on the desk.
Very good Headphones
firstly, an excellent store, responsive managers, very quickly delivered to Russia
Aand the headphones met my expectations, at the moment I use them to create music
Good but not quite the revelation I had hoped for
Previously been using the Superlux HD 681B headphones for mixing and general listening to music via an Audient ID4 interface and upgraded to these expecting a huge improvement. I gave them several overnight sessions on 'pink noise' via You Tube to burn them in before properly evaluating them. Yes, they sound pretty good and are obviously a bit quieter due to the higher impedance vs the Superlux (2x32 ohms) but I found them a little muddy if I'm honest, even listening to albums known for being well mixed/mastered. They are helpful for setting levels I would say but maybe they would sound better with an interface with a more powerful headphone amp. I haven't tried with a separate headphone amp yet as it seems the ID4 should be enough but I might upgrade the interface at some point to see if it sounds any different. I'd recommend pairing them with Tonebuster's Morphit to get the most neutral sound if you are using them for mixing or just like to listen to music with a more neutral sound balance.
Really really good monitoring headphone. I tried the Premium Edition first, which is more loose on the head so the clamping force is lesser than the Pro edition. One of the difference is coiled cable, which is really important if you are working in the studio and there are many devices-cables around. One problem I have is the right ear sometimes distort, and I can't understand is it because of the drive or because the clamp force is not enough there. But still it's a really good headphone, especially for these price range. Would recommend to anyone who are looking for a nice monitoring cans.
With a small correction is excellent!
If you take down some 5-10K and boost bass its a perfect headphone. Deep sound 3D. Not like some other where are only treble....
I put an EQ and lower the gain so it doesn't clips when doing correction.
Maybe you need a loud amplifier of headphones if your audio interface hasn't got enough power. But mine has (SPL Crimson 2)
Glad I bought these. Very happy at last I found a nice headphone. had ATH M50X (very treble sound) If you like deep sound get these. I recommend Sonarworks Reference headphone edition to correct them.
Great sound for a reasonable price
Great sound with a neutral frequency response. I use them for practicing at night guitar with a THR10 as well as e-piano.
