beyerdynamic DT-880 Pro Black Edition Reviews
Insane
Totally insane headphones. They're just above the 770 and 990 both.
great headphone for mixing & mastering
love them a lot <3
Surprising
At first I thought I'll be getting what I have paid for (which was already demanding a certain quality).
However, I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality in comparison to the price and this set can really give other, more expensive sets the run for their money.
In my mind there is no other set which can compete with this one at this price range. The lows are exactly what I was looking for.
Not boomy, not angry - tight and superbly controlled, and the highs have surprised me with the fact that even with extremes you don't experience harshness.
Overall, this product is what I use the most now even when producing once I got used to them which was very quickly. And I have a few sets which are way more expensive.
One note is they can be a bit more tightly gripping than other units, but I got used to that. Getting these is a no brainer. For all my agonising research before I bought these, knowing what I know today - I would get them without thinking twice.
Not a legend
I don't think it's significantly more soundproofing than the fully open 990s, although the soundstage is noticeably narrower. The fabric used on it is not as soft and comfortable as in the 990s. The sound quality is fine as expected and I think it looks more elegant, but I always prefer the 990s for use. There is also the risk of scratching other equipment by the metal edges used in most beyerdynamic headphones. I would definitely recommend using them with a headphone stand.
Recomendables 100%, comodidad excepcional.
Better than expected
After a thorough market research I decided for beyerdynamic DT-880 for my home studio and I could not have picked better. They are comfortable, quality-material headphones and look great in black. Most importantly, they enabled me to mix and master my songs arguably better than my monitors. Plugging them directly to the PC or instruments is not ideal as they are pretty quiet but an audio interface solved that problem (recommend Motu M2).
Great Headphone for Mixing
DT-880 Pro is one of the best headphone in this price range you could get. it's super flat and you can hear everything with low volume too. The only thing you should consider is to use it with a headphone amp or proper headphone out, cause it needs good amount of power to move those drivers.
Great headphones from Germany!
Excellent monitor headphones.
Extremely comfortable fit, smooth frequency response, high-quality workmanship. I think that headphones with such characteristics are much more expensive.
I recommend this product!
Good headphones but mine broke rather quickly
I had this headphones before and bought this new pair simply because my previous pair died on me the other day.
I had them for a bit over 2 years and all of a sudden my left speaker died. It has always been used in a dust/smoke free studio environment and therefor I was surprised it broke this easy.
I got used to the sound of it and therefor I went for the same model as a replacement. I only hope I had a bad series or something and this one will actually last much longer...
Great Headphones, they do their job
Great for mixing and mastering, they offer a very wide Hz specter and u can easly make great mixes with them. I use them for mixing/mastering, also using Monitors to check the mixes everywhere, but they are perfect, better then 990PRO in my opininon, owned all 3, 770, 880 and 990, 770 are perfect for artist when recording, 880 for mixing mastering ! i would recomen this 2 options over 990 !
No more headaches!!!
I bought these headphones for mixing, they are super transparent, I feel they don't color, they are quite flat, I use them in conjunction with the sonarworks and I find them a perfect match.
I bought these to replace my Superlux HD-330's that I had for almost 5 years before they broke down on me. At first I was a bit hesitant to buy these after a couple of reviews pointed out that the Black Edition has a different sound to the regular silver DT-880 Pro. I still decided to go ahead as the regular DT-880's were not in stock at the time when I was looking for new headphones. The fears of this being inferior to the regular DT-880's were quickly washed away.
The lows are definitely not dominant. I would describe the bass as tight and contained, so if you're looking for a loose low-end that dominantly fills the cup with every beat this headphone might not be for you. However, I find the lows to have almost perfect balance, leaving room for higher frequencies. The definition is good and won't be muffled by higher frequencies either.
The mids are quite bland. I can't say a lot about them, they just are. They definitely aren't bad, but not exceptionally great either. I could do with more clarity and crispness, however for this price I can't really complain. If something is a weakness in the sound stage, it is the mids.
I personally find these headphones to be more balanced towards the high end. Treble definition is very crisp and tends to push through the mids a bit, but I do not find this to be a major problem. This headphone definitely comes to life with higher frequencies. I would say this has the best high ends I've heard in any headphone I've tried out, but that just comes down to a matter of taste.
I would recommend to have an amplifier to accompany this pair of Beyerdynamics to get the most out of them.
Then to the comfort. I have a big head, but still I find these headphones to be very comfortable, even though the Pro version has a higher clamping force than the regular DT-880's. I can use these for hours straight even with glasses, so the clamping force is not a problem for me. A small downside is that I would wish the headphone could be adjusted just 0.5-1cm lower. The edge of the cushion barely rests on the lower part of my ear which does not bother me, but something I noticed did not happen with the previous pair of my headphones. It's not uncomfortable but a bit annoying, so I will have to deduct a star from comfort.
The looks. I've personally always liked how Beyerdynamics look. These are no exception, I prefer the black version over the regular silver one. It does not scream the brand name, so that's a big plus. Headphones are for listening, not for showing off.
All in all, this headphone is great for its price. I want to claim that you'll struggle to find as good a pair as this for this price. It's a great all-rounder: for music, for gaming, for entertainment...
I wholeheartedly recommend these headphones.
Excellent
Comfortable and pristine sound.
Good for wearing it hours in the studio.
Great sound quality for mixing
High Quality Building â High Quality Sound
It's my first Beyerdynamic headphones and I've been using them for over a month now. As AKG addict I wanted to buy K-712 Pro. However, I decided to try something new for myself and did not lose. I like the way they're made and sound. I can work using them all day and completely forget that they are on my head. And I also like that the Waves Studio 3 I use has a profile for these headphones.
Uncomfortable
I bought a few years ago (for a much higher price) a pair of those headsets. I thought that i was buying the same quality but despite a good sound quality ( perfect for mixing ), I had to send them back as they are very uncomfortable.
Awesome for mixing. Comfortable, transparent, spatial and versatile
I've tried some Audio Technica and Sennheiser headphones and I'm happiest now with these headphones.
They are extremely comfortable, which is a must for every producer/engineer who needs long hours mixing/monitoring.
The sound is really clean and spaced, so they might not be best for bass-heavy signature lovers. But they do sound quite similar to the Sennheiser HD600s. They do have some overemphasized treble frequencies that may need some time to adjust to but then they just provide a really reliable sound.
The build quality is pretty good, the design is really slick and they really win over competitors when it comes to comfort.
They are semi-open, so you can monitor recordings of artists in the same room without sound leakage into their mic, and you can hear when someone talks to you while using them, so you're not fully isolated.
They work great with any genre, to check mixes, to listen to music with a very high level of detail and to replace monitors with their relatively open design. Great value for money.
Epic fail.
Bought these for my father, who already owned silver model of DT-880 Pro 250 Ohm.
And well... I thought that this is going to be exactly the same sounding pair of headphones as previous one.
Too bad that I didn't read the reviews.
This "Black Edition" model, although it's called DT-880 Pro 250 Ohm, sounds A LOT worse than the silver Pro one. Huge spike at mid-highs, and unusually scooped mids, a little bit quieter compared to previous silver model.
Great reference Headphones\
These headphones were a major improvement on my previous AKG's (lower grade series). They are more comfortable although the pro version can feel a bit tight at the beginning. I have been mixing on them mostly at night, and I really love using them!
Only head you'll ever need
This are the best headphone i owned so far. Some pros and cons
- Sound, OMG if you have a good DAC/AMP this will be a gods. Clean, good seperation, not super birght(like dt990pro), but bright, which is pros for me.
- Semi-Open, good middle-ground between closed and open.
- Bass, its not overwhelming like in dt990pro(i sold those because of that) but it's their and its very detailed. I feel at home with this bass.
- Stage/Positioning, very good.
- Confort, when you get use to clamping power they will disapear
- Serviceble, you can take them apart and repair on your own, and service parts are very easily accessible.
I haven't founded any cons so far...but if you are picky
- Coiled cable...i personally prefer straight...
- Cable it not detachable aswell, but its very sturdy so it shouldn't be a problem, it won't brake.
Beyerdynamic DT-880 Pro Black Edition
The Beyerdynamic DT-880 Pro Black Edition is very comfortable, lightweight and fits perfectly over the ears. The sound is really natural, I mainly use it whilst playing my guitar through an amp.
