beautiful live mic

great rejection

good sound, handle well pressure, amazing on percussions, vocals, very good on sax, trumpet, can be used for guitar With success although the medium can be a bit blurry.

The Noise Cancelling Dynamic Microphone

Built to last.

Worth every extra penny.

This is much better German quality than the cheaper Chinese Shure SM57.

All the goodness of SM57 without the static hum noise cheaper dynamic microphones like SM57 are plagued by.

The extra coil in the Beyerdynamic M201G provides the hum-canceling I need.

Used for vocals and heavy guitars in a great tandem with Sennheiser E960 complementing each other on a true professional level.

excellent mic

These things are very versatile. I would not consider this a competitor to the SM57, although they do somehow have a similar feel. I like using them on snares, hi hats, and other random instruments. I don't think they would sound bad anywhere and can sound very good in certain places.

Super mic for instruments playing live

Brilliant mic for mic'ing up quiet instruments without pickups on a live stage. (Violin, Acoustic Gtr, Banjo, etc)

Very directional, very good feedback rejection, nice and compact can fit onto small boom stands with a standard vocal mic clip.

All round have nothing bad to say about the m201

Its probably one of the best Ive come across for such a cheap price.

Would highly recommend it in your arsenal for live sound applications.

Great for snare

Replaced a working Sennheiser e904. The M201Combined with the K&M 24030 Mic Holder made it easier to get the right angle to obtain a full sound of the snare with an open and nice top end - so I even dropped the snare bottom e904 and ran with only the M201 (on the snares miked so far)

Great German microphone

This microphone is quite amazing for a dynamic mic. You can use it where you would typically use a condenser microphone, and it will deliver. Pair it with a Soyuz Launcher and it becomes full of character. Highly recommended for snare drum, but also for string and wind instruments.

Excellent dynamic mic

Great allround dynamic mic. Great for vocals, guitar, drums. The only reason you might not want to use it is when you need a wider polar pattern.

A classic smooth-sounding dynamic with tight pattern

This mic looks like a condenser but it's a dynamic/moving-coil type. It *sounds* flat yet the response graph shows something of a presence boost like an SM57, though less pronounced. This mic sounds great on snare if you need an alternative; since it doesn't sound as present and cutting you will hear more of the mids and lows giving you a very full snare sound. If your snare drum is bright this may be helpful. Its specialties are snare, guitar amps, toms, hi-hats and anything you need to mic up close to reduce stage spill on a noisy stage.

The tight hyper-cardioid pattern is the most useful feature. Used on snare you can almost eliminate bleed from the hi-hats. On a loud stage it will help isolate each source from stage spill, and it's very effective.

Personally I love the sound of this mic, through careful positioning you can get the result you need eg. by controlling proximity effect with distance. But if you're used to the brightness of an SM57 or e906 it's quite different on guitar amps. It responds really well to EQ so you can tailor it easily, and that fantastic tight pattern means a cleaner sound.

This great little mic is a versatile tool that an experienced technician can use to get top results, but get ready to hear the difference between common cheap mics and a genuine pro classic!

A great microphone.. a workhorse that sound great . I use it with a shure sm57 to record guitars with reat results

Beast for VO and even overheads - ask Massenburg

I judged this mic too quickly. And wrongly so.

This mic is outstanding on VO and drums. For the price, you can't beat it. Also, it is built like an absolute tank. Silky, smooth sound but make sure the room you record in doesn't sound bad like mine when I first got this.

A superior instrument mic

This is a solid and good looking mic. The built quality is amazing. I recommend this for snare drum, hi hat or more . A great mic to work with

All Around GREAT microphone

If you like the Shure SM57, then you will love the M201. Like the 57 it's a microphone with endless possibilities, but in my opinion sounds much better then the SM57! Great for both studio and live use on percussion, horns (brass), snare, guitar amps etc. Like the 57, the M201 is built like a tank, built to last forever. Highly recommended!

New Favorite!

This microphone is now 95% on the snare drum during the recording sessions. It can handle very high SPL, so it does not require any attenuation pad. The sound is amazing, as well as the rejection. The build quality is top-notch. Amazing microphone!

A great sub For the SM57. A different sound. Great on guitars, snare.. you name it. A workhorse.

Best dynamic microphone for a reason

This blows the shure sm57 out of the water, in my opinion it's way better than the shure SM7B for spoken word once you pair it with the Shure A81WS windscreen.

Unfortunately it's also about as quiet as the SM7B, so you will have to have very good/amazing preamps!

I had to return mine because my preamps are a bit lacking but I'll probably repurchase it once I get a better interface.

Perfect for saxophone!

This is a sturdy dynamic mic I use for saxophone, I stumbled upon this brand through a web site. It states that the frequency response is very neutral. Fantastic from Baritone to soprano. It doesn't have that 6 kHz boost that the SM57 has. So very pleased with it. And it's a TG (tour gear) and is supposed to withstand the environment of the band stage.

this mic is a great snare

I bought this microphone on the advice of a friend for use on hi-hat. When I got it, I tried it on a drum kit recording. On the snare drum, I liked it better. The sound without additional processing turned out to be punchy in the mix (I always liked this one). Now I use it not only for recording but also in live performances in the position of the snare drum on top.

Boom! Big snare!

I will only say that after trying this mic, I sold my SM-57 and I will never again use it on snare drum.

The M201TG has great response and will give you a big fat punchy sound to your snare drum. I used it for quite a few recordings and also live, and I love it.

A combination I particularly like is this one on top of the snare, and a Sontronics DM1S below.

Oh lord, the best dynamic mic there is!

This m201 and its cousin, the m88, are the best dynamic mics you can find. They are heavy, sturdy, they sound great in every source you can imagine. I have two m88s and one m201, I regret I didn't get two m201, but I'll fix that soon. m88s are better on deep voices, brass, bass guitar, toms, kick. m201s are better on sharp voices, on steel guitars, on guitar amps, on harmonica, snares.
