BSS AR133 Reviews
the standard
it's the market standard, what else? ð
Built Like a Tank!
Sturdy and delivers a good sound. Great both for the live or recording environment!
Solid
Everything you could need for a mono DI, survives much longer than any other major brand.
Not cheap, but works well
Stopped the humming from my eurorack setup, not cheap but worth it!
Industry standart
I just love those DI boxes, they are very versatile and natural sounding, built like a tank and easily stackable. Pad feature is a lifesaver. I had them in use for over a year and they can handle a lot of stage abuse and still work perfectly.
Robust, reliable And universal
Can be used for everything. Great product and had it for 4 years and no problems.
Ordered 3. 1 arrived defective.
Sounds clean and clear. Doesn't feel as sturdy as other (more expensive) boxes (Radial, per example). Made in China, not in UK anymore... A bit big and bulky... Good product overall, but could be improved.
A must!
I use it on my electro-classical guitar for gigs and recording and I can say that the result is great! It gives articulation and clarity to the sound and keeps the natural character of my guitar. It has all the features that I could ask for and it is built like a tank. I highly recommend it!
Musthave
This beast really tightens sound of my guitar. 5/5, recommended!
Original and best
Still the original and best... bought one years ago which is still going strong... bought this recently and still as good
Quality
This does everything you want a DI to do.
It reproduces a more accurate low end than some cheaper DI boxes. I don't think there's much need to pay more than this.
The DI Queen
Tonight I'm gonna have my self a real good time
I plugged my DI-I-I-IIIIII
And the wooooorld, is sounding so nice now.
Floating around in exctasy so :
Don't STOP ME now...
Industry standard.
You can see these DI boxes anywhere - on large stages, small clubs or private parties and you know why, because they sound great, have full galvanic isolation, sturdy casing, easy to use. I highly recommend this DI box.
My Choice of DI
The biggest issue I've had with DIs in the past is that they have had an awful habit of "colouring" or dimming the signal, so these were a delightful find when I first used them. What goes into it, is what comes out (just cleaned up a little). The rugged design means it'll take a kicking in any energetic environment.
The DI has an active design, meaning it requires phantom power, however can run using a battery. The neat little thing about this is the power switch that you can hit to turn it off to make sure you don't drain the battery. I wouldn't use batteries myself, but it's still the small things that make the difference for those in a bind.
The lift switch is a definite requirement and the ability to plug in an unbalanced XLR signal makes this DI infinitely more useful as an impedance management tool.
The only thing I would say I would like improved is to have more options with the pad switch. The amount of times it would have been perfect to do a -10dB cut on the signal but had to go for a -20dB minimum has been annoying but not unworkable.
All in all, great DI and for the price, you'd be mad to go for anything else.
Industry Std DI box
Great bit of kit.
My Expectations Are Met
I basically like the sound of my guitar when it goes through an active DI box before it goes into my audio interface's line input as compared to going straight into instrument input or Hi-Z input. However, there's white noise coming out of my old DI box. So I searched for a possible better replacement until I was able to narrow it down to only one which is the BSS AR133.
The BSS AR133 is definitely a quite active DI box. Also, the BSS AR133 is transparent sounding as it doesn't color the sound like the first active DI box I owned (a more expensive active DI box than BSS AR133). So now I feel that what I am hearing in my DAW is really my guitar's true tone because the BSS AR133 isn't getting in the way by doing its job well. In short, you won't know what you're missing until you try this awesome gear!
Pros:
- Transparent sound quality
- Build quality
- Built like a tank
- Neutrik input and output connectors
- Through the BSS AR133, my guitar's DI sound now sounds like a guitar coming out of my studio monitor speakers because of the absence of artifacts.
Cons:
Very minor but I was a bit surprised that there isn't a battery holder in the battery compartment as compared to the noisy cheap DI box it is replacing.
Highly recommended. Proven to be the industry standard.
Studio Standard DI
There are to many brands and to way many type’s of DI, go for a classic like this one, the BSS AR133 is just the best price/quality DI box. Build like a tank, wil last a lifetime!
Great Sounding DI
Works every time, really reliable.
very well built
The best in the business
Thes DI boxes are reliable and durable, they're used and abused weekly in a live production environment.
Sonically they are an improvement on the previous DI boxes I used and will continue to be the go-to DI for any gig I'm doing.
Great box
Great neutral-sounding DI box. I also like that the pad switches are built in such a way that it's not as easy to accidentally kick them in and change the amount of pad, which I've seen happen on stage with some toggle pad switches on Klark Teknik and Radial DI's. Super-rugged and I like the way they sit off the ground a good bit on the rubber feet.
