BSS AR133 5-stars Reviews
Universal Swiss Army DI Tank!
It is durable, I think I could throw on the street and run over with truck and it would work without problems. It has so many options to switch and it can handle almost every type of sound, passive/active etc :) I recorded mainly guitars and basses with that and I think that worked well.
All I can say is, its a regular choice as a DI. It never let me down.
Best buy!
I needed a DI for electric bass guitar to use on rehearsals with my band. I used to plug-in the cable straight into the mixing console and had a direct monitoring from the desk to my in ear system. The main problem was a rumbling noise so I had to use moderate gating.
After putting BSS AR133 in between the guitar and the desk, the noise disappeared.
Most importantly, the sound changes dramatically. Fat low ends and crystal high ends appears, and the bass cuts through the mix much better.
As for the build quality the unit looks and feels like a tank and indestructible. Usage is very straightforward, the phantom power comes from the mixing console and there is a battery slot if 48V power is not available.
Regarding its price, I would definitely recommend anybody to buy the unit.
Very durable construction and good sounding Di Box for such a price!
My choice DI
I've been looking for a new DI for tracking bass and guitar. After some hefty research, I narrowed my options down to the following:
- BSS AR133 (EUR 105,-)
- Radial J48 EUR (235,-)
- Neve RNDI (EUR 299,-)
I plugged my Ibanez SR650 into each of these DI's, into my Focusrite 44. I tracked some parts in both active and passive setting. My findings:
BSS AR133: It doesn't look very slick. With its huge rubber sides, it does look indestructible. The sound is clear and transparent, with very low noise.
Radial J48: It looks good, and also definitely feels sturdy enough. The sound is noticeably warmer than the BSS, more analogue sounding. It sounds great, but definitely colored.
Neve RNDI: Looks wise, this is clearly the winner of the three. Like the BSS, it sounds very clear, even, and moderate in the lows.
The BSS and the Neve sound the most natural and clear, which is what I am looking for in a DI. I want the cleanest sound possible to feed to a pre-amp. However, the sound difference between these two is very small to my ears. So small, that it doesn't warrant the price difference.
Hence, my choice is the BSS AR133. It sounds great, is super sturdy, and very affordable. Recommended!
Industry Standard
These must be good if all of the cheap DI's are copies of them!
I bought 4 of these after using them on various jobs for the hire companies I work for. The sound quality is great, the pads are a very useful feature and being able to battery power them can be very handy when phantom power is at a premium. Solid build quality, I've never had an issue with any of these DI's - There's a reason why almost any audio company in the world you'll find a few of these!
Awesome DI box
Perfect DI box for any system. It has good quality signal input and output. With pad of -20db and -40db. So you can reduce your hot signal to a proper level. Also has a switch for ground and lift. You can link the signal to your amp too and record DI signal straight to your digital audio workstation (DAW).
Has a battery slot inside to supply power for condensor microphone or can take power from external audio interface if it has +48V power switch.
All in all it is a good purchase in every aspect. It is must have tool in your home recording or professional recording studio.
Pure Quality
I'd expect nothing less from BSS, this unit gets top marks throughout. The sound quality is stunning and the build quality is second to none, well worth paying the little bit extra.
As expected
I?ve used these in live applications for acoustic guitar and violin and they?ve always been very reliable.
Sturdily built and with the ability to run phantom power, it?s a great DI box for the price.
Highly recommended.
Best DI i've use so far
It is not the cheapest but definitely worth it.
Ground Hum buster
I had a lot of problems with Ground Hum in the past.
and decided to get the most expensive DI to fix the probelm.
There are other cheaper DIs on the market but it has been worth spending the extra on the BSS AR133. All I know is that I have the answer whenever Ground Hum appears. It can ruin your gig so be prepared.
value for money di box
We bought 10 of this DI boxes. Its very good quality and highly recommended. Its very good to isolating the hissing noises coming from keyboards etc. Its recommended if you have a full size band.
The best dI for everything.
bought two and I have now nearly 10. The best do for live
The best DI that money can buy!
Seriously, don't look at any other options. You are wasting your time. Yeah the Radial might be another nice option but this will get you there just as well if not better. This is the industry standard for a reason! It is built like a tank, it's rock solid, the connectors feel really sturdy and overall it's just a nice and well constructed product!
If you need a DI box and you need a good one THIS IS IT! £90 for a DI might be a tough pill to swallow but seriously YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and you'll happily use this product 10 years down the line. Easily!

Bss AR133
I think the best there is built so strong works first time no problems and does what it says first class DI box
High end bass DI
Very good quality bass DI, very robust excellent quality, you can get cheaper ones of which I have bought but ha to bin them as they broke down and couldn't be repaired, this would last a lifetime. Simple easy to use with usual expected features.would buy again if stolen for sure.
Great DI Box
As far as I can tell these are the bomb. No problems, solid, and easy to use. Just don't forget them as you will never get it back again.
Recommended by my musician friends as well.
BSS DI Box
The best you can get as far as I'm concerned. Got them for the band a few years ago all still in perfect order. Very Strong and Robust housing. Gives a great signal to any instrument. Well worth every penny. Well up to gigging constantly. Well Done BSS
Excellent
I needed a linebox to bring for gigs where there are no line boxes available or crappy Behringer-stuff. This one was bought on the price (it was quite expensive and therefore ought to be good). I have never regretted that purchase. Excellent build-quality, all features expected from a line-box and provides the sound from my acoustic guitars brilliantly.
The classic active DI box
BSS have been making this box for umpteen years now and it's not hard to see why, it just works, has a good selection of useful features and sounds excellent! It is also the model that other manufacturers have copied (almost exactly in looks anyway..)
It's not the cheapest active DI around, but then decent quality doesn't come cheap and Radial gear is more expensive..
