If you are looking for bigger than life, upfront sound, look no further.
When I bought this, I am comparing the neve 1073 and this one.
I am looking for the sound that everyone seems to always hyped for, "THE WARM 3D SOUND".
Neve gives me the mid frequency bite, and this? Oh boy not just one color palette. When you push the fine gain to lower DBs, you get a thick bottomed, smooth high end sound. And when you pushed it hot, it distorts greatly. If you want some high end sparkle, try to play with the rumble filter. It is not just your another low pass filter!
Pure awesomeness
The REDD.47 is an absolute beast of a preamp. The depth, punch and character is incredible. It can also go subtle if you need to thanks to the fine gain. This is my first ever hardware preamp and I'm loving it. I'm processing all my audio tracks through it and the footprint of the REDD47 is superb. The noise floor is good, it's a quiet preamp.
Pros:
- Fat, thick tone.
- Great sound stage.
- Cool retro look.
Cons:
- Input distortion not possible on DI, you need line level signal. So not possible to do revolution guitar unless you route audio from your DAW, but when you do it, it sounds incredible.
- Super steep price.
If you can afford it please go ahead. This is as good as it gets, and it's also not emulated properly yet by the UAD folks so still quite authentic.
