Kenton MIDI Thru 12

I now have three of these, one per rack bay in my studio, splitting up the outputs of my DAW for distribution to all the old synths dotted around the place. It's probably one of the least sexy boxes you can buy, and once it's installed you may never need to look at it again; but that's the point, really. It just gets on with doing what it's supposed to do, while being built like something designed to survive a bomb blast. The powered buffering of the signal means you can rest easy about data getting dropped along the way, and the steel construction means you can stand on it by accident without worrying. Wrangling cables is one of the least creativity-condusive activities in the studio, so anything you can rely on to be properly set-and-forget wins my vote. Buy with confidence, even...
Doepfer We Wheel Electronic
Based on 3 reviews
The Doepfer We wheel is a MIDI controller interpreter - basically it takes resistance or switch values/states in from a potentiometer, fader or switch and converts them to MIDI messages. This was purchased for the building of a prototype for a Make Magazine 'Maker Faire' event. Speedy fabrication of the prototype was essential, and the Doepfer We did not disappoint. It comes as a raw circuit board in a box with some associated cabling and a PSU. The normal static-sensitive precautions need to be observed as there are CMOS chips on the board - so use your grounding wrist strap and don't be that guy/gal! I put mine in a metal case mounted on some PCB risers and machined access holes for the PSU, MIDI and MIDI Activity LED. I was using my We to interpret the messages from a joystick...
CME WIDI Bud Pro

I got this for use with the WIDI Uhost, another Bluetooth MIDI interface from CME. The setup was pretty straight forward, using the WIDI iOS app from CME. They pair automatically. Just remember to turn off Bluetooth on your phone when you want them to pair to each other. Otherwise they will have a tendency to pair with the phone instead. (It is stated in the WIDI App user manual, but as I managed to overlook it at first I figure others could use a heads up). I've since added a WIDI Master Bluetooth MIDI interface for use with my FCB1010. It all works flawlessly.
Viscount Legend Pedalboard 25
Based on 2 reviews
I previously owned a 24-note pedalboard from JG3 tech, which was nice but didn't quite feel realistic enough. After playing my friend's 25-note Viscount pedalboard along with his Nord C2D, I was blown away and knew I had to save up to get one for myself. And now that I have it, I can confidently say that this pedalboard is truly amazing. I received it today and I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase. For anyone in need of a bench, I recommend getting a foldable bench from JG3 tech as it pairs nicely with this pedalboard.
MIDI Solutions Event Processor Plus

A very useful box, with which you persuade your midi system to do what you want it to. I have two Doepfer Maq 16/3 Analogue sequencers which can send continuous control change data as well as note information, the only problem with the Doepfer is the control channel numbers are not the same on the synths I have, I can programme the midi solutions midi event processer through a P.C, and it allows me to convert the control channels sent by the Doepfers to the control channels that my synths respond to, it works really well.
Kenton MIDI Thru 5

I looked at other options on here but this seemed to be the best one at this price vs. the amount of thrus & it being powered etc.. Have it nearly a year now & I'm v.happy with my purchase. An uns3xy bit of studio kit, sure.. but these things are an essential tool once you start accumulating a few drum machines or synths. TBH I look at reviews I normally scan them & look for the negative comments to get an idea of what the product is like. This is such a simple little gadget that it would be impossible to say anything negative about it. Its good quality & works. Really good piece of kit. Its got the steel (?) / metal case.. so its as solid as you could expect. Using it is plug & play. Does exactly what you want it to do. This thing is a small, silent and unassuming...
MIDI Solutions Merger V2
Based on 14 reviews
I had this product a good while, and had to buy another one since I lost the first one. I use this little box to merge two MIDI controllers, a keytar and a Nord used also as MIDI master, into my main sound generator's MIDI input. I would say the main advantage over some of its competitors is the lack of a need for a power adapter, meaning less cables flying around AND not being dependent on an external power supply. Power is drawn from one of the MIDI in. It's light, sturdy, and it has survived years inside my lead box on the road with no padding / protection whatsoever. No detectable latency, no crashes, no panic. It does what it says on the tin.
Kenton MIDI Merge

Bought this recently to resolve a problem I was having inter-connecting a Roland FA08, a MOTIF ES rack and a Samsung T700 Android tablet running Midi Commander. I needed to be able to do patch changes on both the FA and ES while being able to use the FA as a master controller for the ES. Previously, using just a passive midi merge I was getting what appeared to be midi loopback issues and failed communications. Since adding this Kenton along with a G-Lab midi splitter all my problems have disappeared. My setup is working seamlessly.
MIDI Solutions T8 Thru V2

Used in a rather retro home setup up of hardware synths controlled by an Atari ST that were previously connected in series. Everything sounds way tighter and more stable, the back of the rack looks more organised instead of a rat's nest of midi cables and I don't have to switch on all my synths to use the last one in the chain as I has to do previously. I haven't tried any other midi thru boxes so I can't compare it - but as long as the MIDI coming out is the same as the MIDI going in, what more could you ask for?
