soundkiller or killersound?

Over years i played round wounds. Why? because i knew the old recordings from the 60ies and 70ies(?), where most bass players had to play the flat wounds. and this sound was absolutely not the sound i wanted to have.

now it was time to test flat wounds on my Sandberg VM4. and the Daddario ECB81 Chromes had very interesting reviews :"....much treble....good feeling...."

I put the strings on my bass and it was such a cooool feeling. you can slide over your strings without the well known noises (ok...in some situations even these noises make a part of a bass sound).

sustain: very good in my opinion

sound: very bassy sound with enough treble...

perfect for fingerpicking and playing with a pick.

slapping is possible and does work good, but it sounds a little bit more ...I don´t know.."un-funky"?

the question soundkiller or killersound? my answer is, that it depends a little on the music you are playing, but if you are not a slapping-freak, it will work for all kinds and styles of music very well. KILLERSOUND with the comfort of playing flat wounds.

Chromes Flatwound

I'm delighted that I took a chance with these strings. I don't use anything else now. Warm tones. Beautiful strings that seen to get better as they get older.

Great bright sounding Flatwound-String

I ordered these after I had the ECB82 with the gauges 50-105. I like it when strings are a bit stiffer, but that was too much for me. The 45-100 come very close to a standard roundwound 45-105 set tensionwise. They are very bright for a flatwound, but gives that thumpy tone someone wants whos looking for flatwounds. Sits nice in the mix when you play with a loud rockband. I use them on a warwick streamer bolt-on and even if you think this instrument is made for rounds... i say these flats are made for it! The sustain isn't the best with these but thats a common issue with flats. The brightness gives more versatilly than other flats. Dial out treble and u have a classic flats type of sound. Ad treble and you can even slap them (ok sounds a bit weird, but its possible). If you are looking for a bit stiffer flats that are still very bright sounding, these strings are my reccomendation.

Chromes or not to chromes?

String tension is well balanced. You will have to adjust the neck if you change your rounds for some chromes but with this strings you get a set that would not break your neck like some other brands.

The Feeling is nice, and in a week or so (depends on your playingstyle) you have the strings worn in and get a consitant good sound out of them.

To make it short, if you are sick of spending lots of money on roundwound-strings every couple of months, get yourself some flats!

If you also want some decent highs in your tone, get yourself some chromes!

Daddario flatwound chromes

I'm using these strings on my vintage P-bass and I'm very happy with both the sound and the feeling. The flatwound strings gives a soft, warm tone that blends nicely when playing with acoustic instruments.

Classic flat wounds

I have bought several sets of these over the years. The strings are well packaged and of consistent high quality.

The strings are easy to pass through the bridge and wind easily around the machine heads. In my experience, they hold their tune very well, often the bass will be in perfect even weeks after last being played. They also have a good consistent intonation along the neck.

I have always used these strings on Fender or Squier Precision basses, and once the initial has faded from the strings (which happens quite quickly) they produce that classic 60s Precision bass thump with ease.

I am happy to recommend these strings to anyone who wants to reproduce that sound.
