Dunlop Crybaby GCB95 4-stars Reviews
Basic pedal for classic wah wah
This is a classic pedal, no distracting extra features, robust, the “off click” on the toe side works without an overdosis of pressure. There is sometimes somewhere halfway a nasty scream but this may depend on my following pedals. It is the first pedal after compressor and the bona fide buffer. Maybe try out if it has a true bypass, I’m not sure. But it does what it should do.
A classic
The only wah pedal you will ever need.
A little squeaky, especially in the lowermost position. Cuts the treble in the middle when it is off.
Needs modification.
Soldered out buffer stage, swapped 0.01 capacitor for 0.022, soldered true bypass. Instructions are on the internet. The cost of the modification was 1 dollar (capacitor).
As a result, working frequency range became a bit lower, fat sound and true bypass. And all this for less than $100.
I'm very happy with it!
Instant smile :-)
Two songs and you have the picture: Voodoo Child (slight return) and Money for Nothing.
Well build, works smoothly and 'the sound'. What else is needed?
good wah wah not good cocked wah
it sounds pretty good when you are rocking it back and forth but when its cocked its not great, especially when you got a drive pedal or a dirty preamp its got too much gain while also mixed with the mids, im sure it can be fixed with some wiring thing
Classic wah
A true classic wah, exactly what you would expect. It is my go-to wah. The only con is that it would be nice if there were some customization options, but I'm very happy with the stock sound.
Great
Amazing pedal but after a few months it started to have a scratchy sound every time I move the foot up/down.
Dunlop Crybaby Wah
This is a classic. I love it, always works, will never let you down.
Weighs a ton though. I would love to see an LED on this pedal so you can see if it's engaged. I already had a very embarrassing moment during a live gig where I forgot to turn it off...
best quality in this price range
very basic yet very effective wah
Very basic wah pedal, but sounds creamy
This pedal is very basic, which is not an issue, I knew what I was getting, I got what I paid for.
My first wah ever was the dimebag model which is twice as expensive, it had tons of features, most of them I did not use at all. I sold that one a long time ago cause I wanted to get a normal and more classic wah. So now I got this, I'm still getting used to it. But it sounds good overall.
Nothing to say about the quality, it's built like a tank.
Only comment I would like to add as feedback would be that I think the rubber raisers the pedal has at the bottom should have an easier way to remove them. It has been a struggle to attach this to my new pedalboard, basically the rubber feet are too tall and the Velcro doesn't stick properly to the pedalboard because of those rubber things. I was able to unscrew the screws, take off the rubber things and then upon trying to put the screws back in, basically it did not work without the rubbers, so in the end I just put the rubbers back and accepted my defeat.
Interesting note: when I took the 4 screws off, I took a sneak peek at the insides of the pedal. I would say more than half of the pedal is empty air, I guess it's a fairly simple effect, it's just big enough for our big feet.
Overall, creamy pedal.
Wah Classic
Everything about this pedal is just fine, except one thing. I like the sound and it's reliable, but it's not true bypass.
Standard wah
Its a great wah pedal for doing the basics.
Its difficult to get a inbetween of off and full wah. Its just the pedal and no futher knobs to adjust or change your sound.
Great as a starter wah pedal but would recommend a more advanced version for more experienced trying to find a new sound.
Overall i am happy with the outcome of the purchase.
Note: They do lube the gears inside the pedal which makes it really lose to adjust, dont worry about what is happening.
The classic Wah Wah
A good wah wah to start with in the Dunlop wah wah line. It gives a nice classic wah wah tone, but that's all you are going to get.
I do not use it at the moment, but if I would need a wah wah, I might go for a more expensive Dunlop wah wah that offers more features.
It arrived without any flaws, the rubbers on the bottom were easy to remove so I could put some velcro on it for my pedalboard.
Straight forward wahwah.
I bought this pedal as my first wah wah.
This is a very basic pedal without any extra knobs.
I play mostly metal and this pedal does a fairly good job.
I would still prefer something else (like Zakk wylde Wah or Dime's signature wah) as it doesn't really satisfy my needs. But for rock, blues and everything else I think it will do very well.
The build quality is good, not much to say.
Overall it's good pedal, straight forward wah.
It's very basic and not very specific. So as a first wah pedal it does a great job.
Great tone, great durability
GCB95 is exactly what you would expect. Very good tone in a small and durable box. After 4 years of almost everyday use it does not show any signs of wear.
I mostly played it using Stratocaster, Telecaster and Les Paul Guitars through a 74' Fender Twin Reverb and a Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9. It has shown a nice frequency spectre and the right amount of aggresiveness for rock music as well as gentleness for softer songs.
It had only one downside: it came with a non-working power socket, which had to be replaced.
All in all: good buy, if you like a classic wah sound, but would not suffice if you want versatility, since it does not provide any EQ or other controls.
Solid, great sound
I've moved away from using a Spider IV with the wah on the FBV board to a Marshall TSL so I'm building a separate pedal board.
I've used plenty of mates wah pedals but it's nice to use this classic with my own rig.
Sounds great. Feels like the travel on the pedal is a bit shorter than I'm used to but the sound makes up for it in spades and thats just taste. Im sure I'll get used to it quickly.
Classic Wah tone in an easy to use package
The classic Wah sound in a simple, non frills, easy to use package. Works great for thick distorted solos and choppy bright 70s disco cleans. Would be nice to have an account included power supply but other than that it's a great Wah pedal for beginners and experienced users alike
A great wah, but not for me
Let me be clear: It's a great pedal. Sturdy, kind of heavy... You can feel it won't break easily. And it sounds great (as everybody can see in the hundreds of videos there is online about it).
However, I ended up selling it, because there was a difference in volume between the heel and toe position and it bothered me a lot. It was considerably louder in the toe (treble) position. I don't know if it was just me, or if it was an issue with mine specifically. Anyway, I'll try the Vox to see if I'll like it.
I maintain a good rating because, again, it's a great pedal. It just wasn't for me, I guess.
The definitive wah pedal
Pretty much standard, you know what you're getting here. Solidly built, good connections and a quality latch. A minor niggle is some thinning of sound when in operation, so if you are very picky then audition one beforehand if you can.
No self respecting pedal board should be without one!
whaw.
If you are looking for the classic, basic whawha-sound for a little price, you could become happy with this pedal.
It's built very reliable and has this well known sound. I like its range, but it's nothing special scooped or anything, just minimalistic and basic.
But watch out: If you want to mount it on a even pedalboard, you could get problems since it has four little stands on the bottom ! Also, I suggest to use a power supply, since you have to open the whole pedal with a screwdriver to change batteries.
