Pearl B1330 13"x03" Piccolo Snare
Based on 3 reviews
This is my first time experience with a piccolo snare drum and I can appreciate the sound a lot. It is super crisp and slightly higher-pitched than a normal 14" snare due to the smaller diameter, of course, and the shallow depth gives is a drier, brighter, tone. However, the brass gives it a lot of tone. The shallow depth does not make it sound dead by any means. The tuning range seems to suffer a little from the shallow depth, but that is normal and expected. Still, I would have liked for Pearl to offer piccolo snares that are at least 4" or 5" deep. But those snare drums are not very popular on the market. I cannot find any, in fact. And perhaps more lugs would have been a better asset for this drum. But everything is great. I bet that this snare would sound quite cutting...
Yamaha Recording Custom 13"x6,5" BR
Based on 1 reviews
A very musical tone, nice and deep but it contains the same essence tuned high. It is ringier than my Aluminium RC. Nice attack, lovely longer sustain which is why it's musical and a decay perfect for the instrument. 13x6.5 model has body too. Can tune it highly and has a fantastic back beat and all the notes between. A great Snare to have with my Aluminium. Like if you dig the Yamaha stuff you can't go wrong with the RC series. Around 500 bones and really worth every one and more. Drum offers real horsepower when I want it. A beautiful professional snare.
Ludwig 13"x07" Universal Brass Snare
Based on 2 reviews
For long I had been trying to get a high tuning from 14" snares but trying the same thing on this 13" was effortless. The snare now can be pitched higher without choking. These dimensions and Ludwig craftsmanship generate an easy-to-tune, versatile and sensitive snare with a wide tuning spectrum and a lot of 'crack'. I particularly like the signature Ludwig brass timbre. It really helps a lot in the projection while overtones stay controlled. The stock drumheads unfortunately need to be replaced immediately as they are of low quality. Mind also that it comes with 20 strand snare wires which generate an enhanced white noise buzz in comparison to snares with less strand wires. Overall however and given the price tag I cannot complain about this snare. Again it is very versatile...
