I recently added Schertler's Yellow Blender to my double bass rig. Given that I'm playing Velvet Compas 180s strings and amplifying the bass with a Schertler Stat-B and a Unico amp, you can guess I'm rather well inclined towards Schertler products - they cost me a lot, but give me the sound I want. I was never quite convinced about the Blender from the very beginning, starting with the price and by small details such as the absence of a combo-jack on the first channel (XLR only). In the end, I took the plunge because I found myself often playing directly into the PA and needed a chance to blend two channels and give a single sound to the sound engineer, the same way I do when I have my Unico with me (which sports three independent channels, each featuring phantom power). I bought this amp to replace two phi jones bass amps. The sound in much better with deeper bass but still the same clarity as PJB. Have three channels is great. We did a rehearsal at home with two guitars and my acoustic bass, worked really well. Highly recommended

This amplifier has served me well in many situations. I use it to amplify my upright bass at gigs, sometimes with a pickup and sometimes with a microphone. I've also used it as a stage monitor and to amplify vocals. With three channels it is quite versatile. The sound quality is so good that I even enjoy listening to music on it. I had to get a voltage converter to use it in the USA but it was worth it. Wish they made a version that runs on 120V/60hz. Only downsides are that it is a little heavy and unbalanced around the handle and so a little awkward to carry, but it's a minor thing. It has a very good low end, although the very low 20-50 hertz range is just a little less powerful than I would ideally like. The nominal frequency response bottoms out at 30hz, which is a little strange...

I'm so pleased with this. I've used it now on a couple of medium size jazz gigs with my double bass and a Fishman pickup. I tune my bass in 5ths with a low C, and it coped with that easily. Incredibly small but easily loud enough with a five piece band in a medium-sized venue. And such a clean, natural sound. The drummer I played with couldn't believe the sound I was getting given the size of the amp.

Very simple with few features but great value for money. Nice attention to detail e.g. including a small screwdriver to adjust the trim pots and set up is reasonably simple. It also sounds great. My only criticism would be that the instructions weren't clear on how to remove the lid and I spent ages trying to remove the screw on the back which I later found out shouldn't be touched! Luckily I couldn't get it to budge before realising my mistake. I probably should've read the instructions properly before attempting to mess around with it. Other than that I highly recommend this product if you're looking for a cheap, simple but effective pre-amp/signal blender.
