Electro Harmonix Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi 5-stars Reviews
Good stuff
I ordered this pedal to replace my behringer overdrive. This beast gives me a very wide range of sounds. I can mix and change the setting easely and it sounds like a beast!
Great way to find some more sounds and styles with the bass!
It does sound a bit more modern then vintage in my opinion.
Great Pedal
This pedal was exactly what I was looking for. Its just so heavy (sounding). If you like your fuzzy tones this is the pedal for you! It was a toss up between this and the standard Big Muff Pi but for the extra few quid this is worth it on so many other levels.
Its a beast
There's very little that this little beast can't do in terms of lovely fuzzy bass tones. I've had it in my pedal chain now for about 6 months and its become a trusted fixture when other pedals have come and gone.
At first the multitude of controls at your fingers seemed a bit daunting, High/Low pass filters, Gate, Crossover, Blend, there's a lot going on here, and it does take a little bit of tweaking to find that golden ratio that works for you. But what you have here is a tone shaping machine that can really tighten up that fuzzy tone and make it more controllable, when other bass fuzz pedals can just be completely out of control.
The pedal build is a sturdy as most of the EH pedals are.
You also have a range of different output options which just adds to the versatility :)
The best Muff for Bass
It's been 3 months now since i bought this device and after several rehearsals and Gigs A/B-ing the Bass Big Muff and this one here I clearly can say, that this one is far better than the standard Bass Big Muff. I don't know how EHX did it, but the Deluxe Muff is scooping less mids and so i can definitely cut more through the mix than with the normal Bass Muff.
Also it's more easy to dial in the right amount of clean signal with the extra knob (the standard muff had a 3-way switch and with this set to dry you could dial the dry/wet-mix with the volume knob, but there was a slight sound change involved).
So far, the sound itself is better.
But wait, theres more! ;-)
The second channel:
It offers a lot of possibilities to shape a completely different or just a slightly different sound which can be activated with the second foot switch. The high pass filter applies to the distorted signal and the low pass filter to the clean signal.
from thin, cutting guitar like fuzz to ultra low modern sounding mid scooped bass fuzz everything is possible.
I also had the Wooly Mammoth, the Mastotron and the HotOne Fury in comparison, but they all sound not that organic. They more sound like a synth. If you need that, than go for them, they are good, but I wanted some sort of very hard distortion that keeps more natural.
